The Voice In the Baby’s Monitor

My boyfriend and I moved into a new apartment last month. One night, we started hearing strange static sounds coming from one of the boxes we hadn’t unpacked.

It was the baby monitor—left behind by the previous tenant.

Weird, but we figured it was just interference.

Until we heard it.

A voice.

“Shh… go to sleep now. Mommy’s here.”

We froze.

I checked the monitor. It wasn’t even plugged in.

We threw it out the next day. But that night, the voice came back.

This time, through our bedroom speaker.

“I said, go to sleep.”

We moved out two days later.
