A warning from an unknown number stopped me from walking into something I’d never come back from.

I almost didn’t check my phone that night. But one message changed everything—and probably saved my life.

It was around 11:47 PM. I was lying in bed, scrolling mindlessly through social media, half-asleep. My phone buzzed, and I glanced at the screen expecting another annoying spam call or a late notification. But it wasn’t.

It was a text from an unknown number.

“Don’t go outside tonight. Please. Just trust me.”

I stared at it for a moment. No name. No explanation. Just those words.

Normally, I would’ve ignored it. Maybe even blocked the number. But something about it felt… different. It wasn’t just creepy. It felt urgent. Real.

I typed back:

“Who is this?”

No reply.

I showed it to my roommate. She laughed it off. Said it was probably some prank or phishing scam. Still, I couldn’t shake the feeling.

Around midnight, I got up to grab a snack. I almost walked out to the corner store across the street. Almost. But I didn’t. I sat back down. Waited.

Ten minutes later, we heard sirens.

The store I would’ve gone to had just been robbed. The cashier—who I chatted with nearly every night—was shot. He didn’t make it.

My heart dropped.

I tried to call the number back. Disconnected.

I searched it online. Nothing.

The next day, I went through old backups and phone records trying to find any trace of that number. I even called my carrier. They told me no such message was registered on my account. As if it never existed.

But I know what I saw.

Sometimes, I wonder who sent it. A guardian angel? A glitch in time? Maybe even… a future version of me?

All I know is this:

That night, a text message saved my life.

And no one can tell me otherwise.
