The Midnight Maggi Chronicles
The hostel was always alive, even when the world outside slept. It wasn’t just a place to stay—it was a universe of shared secrets, stolen snacks, and stories whispered past midnight.
Her real name was Kavita, but no one in the hostel called her that. To her friends, she was simply Kivi—a name that stuck so well that even she sometimes forgot it wasn’t her real one. Kivi had been in the hostel for almost a year now. She had learned to live with the unpredictable WiFi, the ever-present hostel auntie’s sharp gaze, and the daily struggle of finding good vegetarian food in the mess. But despite everything, hostel life had given her something she never expected—family in the form of friends.
The Midnight Craving
One chilly night, after finishing a long and boring assignment, Kivi’s stomach growled in protest. The hostel mess had served watery dal and half-cooked rice that evening, and her taste buds were still mourning the loss of good food. She looked around—her roommates were also awake, buried under books and phones.
"Maggi?" she whispered.
Within seconds, books were abandoned, and a secret kitchen operation was in motion. A small electric kettle, a packet of instant noodles, and a stolen masala sachet from the mess were all they needed to create hostel-style gourmet Maggi.
As the steam filled the tiny room, they all sat in a circle, sharing the noodles straight from the pot. The warmth of the food mixed with the warmth of their laughter. Someone cracked a joke about their professor’s never-ending assignments, and another friend mimicked the strict warden’s voice, making everyone choke on their food from laughter.
From Strangers to Sisters
It was in moments like these—huddled over Maggi at 2 AM, complaining about exams, and talking about life, love, and dreams—that Kivi truly understood hostel life. They had all come here as strangers, but now, they were each other’s emergency contacts, secret keepers, and 3 AM crisis helplines.
Sure, there were fights over stolen shampoos, unwashed dishes, and noisy phone calls. But at the end of the day, hostel life wasn’t about comfort. It was about chaos, connections, and the little moments that turned into lifelong memories.
As Kivi wiped the last bit of Maggi from the kettle, she smiled. The world outside might never understand the magic of hostel nights, but she wouldn’t trade it for anything.
