THE MAN WITH PURPOSE

Day Doesn't Envy Night

By Baxolele PhindaniPublished 5 months ago • 2 min read

She said out of anger, her voice sharp and trembling, “The worst decisions I ever made in my life were meeting you… and telling you that I love you.”

He chuckled softly, but the sound was cold and hollow. “Really? If those are your worst decisions, then mine was reciprocating your love. I let every single one of your decisions move me like seaweed swayed helplessly by the waves. I took all your frustrations and buried them deep in hibernation, locked away in caves of silence. I guess my entire life became a mistake the moment I chose to follow you blindly, without a map, guiding you every time your eyes saw only mist instead of what stood right in front of us.”

His jaw tightened as the words poured out.

“The worst part is… I lost my own good dreams just to make yours exist. She kept crying, her shoulders shaking with heavy, broken sobs.

Eventually, he stood up slowly. His voice was calm on the surface, but bitterness ran underneath like a current.

“The fastest way to climb a mountain is to climb it slowly. Life is that mountain. If you reach the top exhausted, bruised, and completely broken, you’ll only start missing where you were before. What you’re doing now is trying to reach the peak before your time — and that will leave you in a far worse state than you think you are with me.”

He released a long, heavy sigh, his shoulders dropping.

“I also want the best for you. If you truly believe leaving me is what you need, then I’m happy for you. I don’t regret anything I did for you. And thank you… for the life lesson.”

With calm, steady steps and his head held high, he walked out of the room, leaving her on her knees in the silence
