Greetings, Dearest Vocalites!!!

Today, I introduce to you a new community‑building activity that I hope becomes a fun tradition here. I call it The Getting to Know Each Other Game — a simple, creative way for us to share pieces of ourselves and learn more about the wonderful people who make this community feel alive.

Today’s game is installment number one.

Each game will include ten questions or thought‑prompts for you to answer or complete. Each answer should be no more than 12 words long. In the cases where there are two blanks to fill in, the first blank should be no more than five words, and the second blank up to 12 words.

You will post your answers in the comments section below. But before you do, please avoid reading other people’s answers so you won’t be influenced by their responses. After you’ve posted your own, feel free to explore the thread, enjoy what others have shared, and interact with one another. That’s where the real community magic happens.

Your answers can be deep and introspective, fun and lighthearted, sad and lonely, happy and uplifting, inspiring and philosophical, creative and clever, just plain funny, or any combination of these. There are no right or wrong answers or responses. Just be yourself and let your personality shine through.

Before you dive in, I want to share why I created this little game in the first place. Vocal is full of talented writers, poets, storytellers, dreamers, and thinkers — but sometimes we only see each other through the lens of our work. We read each other’s stories, admire each other’s craft, and celebrate each other’s wins, yet we rarely pause to learn the small, human details that make each of us who we are. Those details matter. They’re the threads that weave a community into something more than a collection of posts.

This game is meant to slow us down just enough to notice one another. To laugh a little. To remember something from childhood. To reveal a quirk, a fear, a joy, or a memory that might otherwise stay tucked away. You may be surprised by how much connection can come from a single sentence — or even a handful of words.

As we continue with future installments, the questions will shift, stretch, and explore different corners of our personalities and experiences. Some will be playful, some reflective, some unexpected. My hope is that each round helps us build a space where people feel seen, welcomed, and appreciated for exactly who they are.

So take your time. Answer honestly, or humorously, or mysteriously — whatever feels right. And most importantly, enjoy the chance to meet the people behind the pens, keyboards, and creative minds that make Vocal such a special place to belong.
