His healing came in the form of an ordinary pale blue and vibrant green cup. The blended hues mixed flawlessly into a full turquoise color.

A plain cup and saucer with a chip on its side in the shape of a small pentagon. He liked putting his pinky inside it as he drank. Noticing the irregular, scratched surface against his skin.

It was nothing extraordinary about the cup — except it was his favorite. He drank from it every day, holding the saucer precariously between his callused fingers, sipping hot tea between parched lips.

A cup of calm surrender to distract him from the horrors of the day as a law enforcement officer. He’d seen so much. More than any human being should. The cup of tea helped him regain his equilibrium.

A small cup of tea.
