The Attraction
For Sasha Desideri's ''A Dollar for Your Thoughts''
So, how do we get more new users to engage with the Vocal page?
This was the one conundrum I have thought about the most, long before it was posted as a particular question on the page. We have a unique environment here that allows us to discuss multiple subjects without many obstacles (just get the word limit right). I am working on one of her other Challenges as I type this, and I have a Vocal Challenge in mind that will all come together, at least by the deadline later next week. As I thought about this over the years, I came up with certain ideas - good and bad - that could help. But the question is very specific: new users to our page.
Well, if they are new users, we cannot assume that they are going to be writers or even interested in most of the work on the page. But that does not matter. Why was Medium so popular for such a long time? Why was that the go-to page for online writing, along with Reedsy, LitHub and a host of others?
Hint, hint: they got into the cultural zeitgeist. They made the world notice them.
I am on YouTube, having spent enough time noting the number of ad interruptions for Reedsy to be impressed with their nerve and services (editors are available on that page who have worked for some very big-name writers). And I think that Vocal needs to get a little bit louder.
Did you hear what I said?
GET LOUDER!!!
Just my little idea, especially in a society where writing has to compete with a million other distractions... If I have to see another reality-TV-influencer idiot put out another tome devoted to their fashion sense and rise to the top ''through all their hard work'', I am going to get very annoyed. Maybe now is the time to get in certain faces and let the world know that we exist.
Speak up, Vocal...
I said...
SPEAK UP!
Let the world know...
