Imagine, if you will, me as an adorably chubby six-year-old. My family was at my Grandma Britton's house (it was a nickname), to celebrate Christmas. Little did I realize that my life would change forever!

The terrifying event happened on 12/25/1998 at approximately 7:15 PM, about fifteen minutes away from dinner being ready. I was watching Christmas cartoons in her living room, and my mother was helping in the kitchen, while my older brother helped my father move things around in the den for Grandma Britton.

Once Frosty the Snowman went off of the air, I got bored and began flipping through channels for something else. I landed on the Nickelodeon channel with enthusiasm. It always had such incredible shows on, so there surely would be something good on for the Christmas season, or so I believed.

And then it came on. The commercial that changed my poor, innocent life forever:

Attack of the Giant Vulture!

I screamed bloody murder as an enormous bird, which I fervently believed was a turkey, chased little kids around while trying to eat them. Sobbing loudly, my mother, father, and brother burst into the living room to see what was wrong.

My brother, who was eight-years-old, screamed as well. Although not as dramatically as I was.

As my father tried to turn the TV off, my mother hugged us tightly. Soothing our frazzled nerves.

Grandma Britton, God bless her heart, announced with holiday joy while carrying a twenty-pound turkey on a silver platter, "Dinner's ready!"

Both of us shrieked in terror as my father ushered a very confused Grandma back into the kitchen, where he whispered hurriedly, explaining the situation.

Once he finished and we settled down, everyone sat down to dinner. However, we refused to eat the turkey and ate honey ham instead. In fact, we refused to even look at the turkey until someone thoroughly cut it into slices for sandwiches.

To this day, we won't eat turkey unless we have watched it cook ourselves, or if it's already sliced and prepared. Ensuring that the terrifying 'vulture' is dead once and for all.
