First paycheck earned and spent

John: I was ricing when young and spent my first pay on school clothes.

Denise: I was a papergirl, with my younger brother at age 10 and 12 and it was good to have spending money as we didn't receive an allowance like other kids we knew did.

Recent inspiration

John: Reading about a Native American airline pilot who was caught drinking, went to prison, and made it all the way back in his recovery to flying again. That story was inspiring, because if he could do it after all the consequences, and be reinstated as a pilot, that is inspiring to anyone.

Denise: My friend at water ceremony, that is helping her sister with dementia downsize. She had a party with friends and family, just to get rid of some very nice things that she knew family would love. Her sister was a teacher and had so many office supplies and Native American art and craft items.

And she always brings something she has made for the group, like small bags to carry smudging medicines in, like sage. Baked goodies. Items from the garden. She made me a ribbon skirt without me asking or paying for any of it. She is truly an inspiration.

First dance or party experience

John: Very nervous at the first dance I attended. After a couple drinks I was okay! Denise: Did you have a couple drinks at the first dance you attended? How old were you? John: Yes, I was a teenager.

Denise: I remember in middle school how the girls were all on one side of the gym and the boys were on the other side as the music played in the beginning. Before long those couples that were seeing each other outside of school got together and the dancing started.

Some of the girls started to dance together, and some of the girls asked a boy to dance. Some got braver as the night went on, so maybe some of them had a few drinks too. I don't know.

Last time genuinely surprised

John: When the deer hit me while on my motorcycle. First, my bike stayed up after being hit. And I didn't expect my bike to come out of it as well as it did. Then, I thought my leg was broken. It was my ankle and not the serious part of the ankle. Recoup time is not as long as others said it would be.

Denise: Last Friday when we were told our training didn't have enough people registered. I always think that maybe it's time to truly retire. But last time I thought that the training ended up filling up. I don't think it is happening this time. But she wants us to put it on the calendar for February.

A perfect day looks like

John: When I am all caught up with everything that needed to get done. I like having time for our kids and grandkids visits. And when we go out riding.

Denise: Spending time with family and friends. Especially when we are not rushed to get to the next thing or have work to do. I like my Sundays, with water ceremony, relaxing around the house, and our evening together.
