Author's Note: John picked the cards and answered them first. I didn't answer them at the same time. It gave me time to think about the answer as a couple were tough questions. Some of the answers brought humor, and laughter.

Our youngest daughter and her husband visited and decided they will use the cards as a game with another couple they spend time with as she looked up the cards and found out they were game cards.

Talking Hearts couple’s edition cards prompts:

What's a small victory you achieved recently?

If you won a shopping spree to any store, which store would you choose when you were 15 years old vs. now?

Talking Hearts Cards

Achievement

John: Buying the Ryker. I've been looking at trikes for five years and debating whether it may be time or not.

Denise: I gave notice at New Leaf. (Weekly mental health crisis center group) I have been wanting to since the pandemic.

Shopping spree

John: When I was 15, it definitely would have been a motorcycle dealership. After hitting two deer this year, and one of the two last Saturday, it would have to be the Dodge dealer, to buy an armored car or truck. At minimum a truck with a steel grill.

Denise: At age 15, it would have been a car. Preferably a sports car. Now, because it has been since 2016 when I retired, I am running out of dress clothes, and I still consult and train, and haven't bought dress clothes, so I need clothes. I would need coats, pants, tops, everything! And even if I don't get a shopping spree, I will be taking one sometime soon!

Talking Hearts couple’s edition cards prompts:

How do you cope with feeling of rejection?

If you had to perform at a talent show in 1 hour, what would you do?

Talking Hearts Cards

Rejected

John: Rejection begets rejection

Denise: I have that going on now with a neice/granddaughter. I am giving her space. She is mad at me and will get over it. She is a therapist, and will figure out her part, and mine.

I think my part was just expecting her to understand addiction as a therapist. I don't think most therapist understand addiction. My fault. And in the meantime, I will give her the time she needs without interfering, so yes, in a way, rejection begets rejection.

In this case, any other way feels much like walking on eggshells with her, as her dad told me he wasn't willing to do with her, when she complained to me about her dad.

Talent

John: As an old man, lift heavy weights. Denise: Yes, I can see you doing that. I thought maybe you would pull out a guitar and play the song you know the best? John: I don't have my guitar anymore.

Denise: I would use my hand drum and sing an Ojibwe water song.

Talking Hearts couple’s edition cards prompts:

Are you currently worried about something that's not within your control?

If you were a retired supervillain, what course would you teach?

Talking Hearts Cards

Something out of your control

John: My car from hitting the deer last Saturday. I have a $500. deductible. Does it even make sense to turn it into the insurance? I will be deciding that today. And that feels so out of my control.

Denise: My part in a presentation for Indigenous People's Day. I prepared and can only do the best I can do. I was told to turn nervousness into excitement in my head, so the stress isn't as bad. Afterall, how many times have I presented. Last time was Saturday night and that went well.

Retired supervillain

John: I would teach breaking into a safe. Only if I were that type of villain. Denise: Growing up, I heard about the town of Bena having bank robbers! You probably do know how to safe crack. And I don't want to know.

Denise: There was a batman comic with a Deacon Blackfire. I would teach about Native American medicine men/women and Shaman. Some things that don't get talked about, or written about.
