Among all types of writing out there in the literary universe, that personal touch sounds like its own unique and fascinating genre all on it’s own. A place where words whisper to us and act as reflections of our deepest souls, experiences, and even our most private thoughts. Personal writing is an art— it’s baring our hearts to the page and to others, distinctive storytelling that resonates in ways news stories can’t. This is what personal writing really is, this kind of engagement epitomizes the real meaning behind a ‘personal essay’. When we write for ourselves, we are on a personal voyage of discovery, digging up the gems that lie dormant in our psyche. It can be a cathartic experience that helps us sort through our feelings, unravel the threads of everyday life and feel a sense of comfort in simply writing (or typing). Call it an Introspective walk as they help us express outwardly and put into words the inward dealing that is happening within ourselves.

I have been making my way through Stephen King's Danse Macabre (slowly but surely) after being introduced to it for a university English assignment (by the way, lots of good notes in there! Who knew?). It is basically one big unorganized essay about a lot of things, but mainly about horror. About a third of the way through, King starts talking about establishing his niche and psychoanalyzing what made him interested in writing horror—and how pointless it might actually be to try to analyze why anyone writes what they write, as he says "you might as well ask the rose why it is red."

We care about more than just ourselves - we care about our loved ones, our communities, and the world around us. We are affected by tragic events, especially when a child is murdered, regardless of where it happens. It deeply impacts us and makes us feel disheartened. Moral evils raise doubts about the goodness of the world and the value of existence, especially for those who believe in a benevolent deity. However, anyone can contemplate the purpose and value of the universe in light of such evils. We may not need to worry about the value of the Universe and instead focus on finding value in our own lives or the lives of our loved ones. The concept of value is subjective and can be created by us.
