I tried to be heartless, and here is what happened
You know when the shit hits the celing and life is an absolute mess everywhere, yeah that is what I am talking about. My existence has had 22 years on this gorgeous — gorgeous mortal realm and in the recency of my being, my life has sucked a lot. I have had my share of darkness since forever, but of late, my desperation for light has been at its zenith. I have wanted my life to look like the glorious lives of Rory gilmore, an academic scholar, while being the perfect 4.0, a beautiful boyfriend( maybe not necessary), a great deal of money, a stellar institute I go to, a high qualified job in writing or journalism, and parents being super proud of me.

Sixty Cents For A Hundred Reads
Introduction On page eight of my stats, I have four stories with a hundred read, each of which has given me sixty cents from Vocal. This is just some thoughts about where most of my reads come from (I still don't know), and how reads often stagnate after the initial publication on Vocal. I recently wrote a story in a similar area here:

The Hill Between Heartbeats
I didn’t know I was breaking until I met stillness. For years, I moved through life like a ghost in a familiar house—mother, protector, survivor. My laughter was rehearsed, my smiles were armor. There was always something to do, someone to save, a crisis to manage, a fear to silence. I held my boys like shields against the world, even when the weight of everything threatened to buckle my spine.

The Last Voicemail: A Brother's Cry from the Shadows
It was 2:14 a.m. when Maya's phone buzzed on the nightstand. Half-asleep, she fumbled to check it—an unknown number had left a voicemail. She almost ignored it. But something made her press play. “Maya… if you're hearing this, I don't have much time. They're inside the building. Don’t trust anyone—not even the police. I’ll try to send the location…” A short gasp. “Tell your father I’m sorry—” The message cut off. Maya sat up, heart pounding. That voice. It had been nearly five years since she’d heard it. A voice she thought she’d never hear again. It was her brother, Zayn. The same Zayn who’d been declared dead in a car crash in Karachi. --- When Zayn died, everything fell apart. Their mother had never recovered, their father grew distant, and Maya had buried herself in her job as a freelance coder just to survive the silence. But now—this voicemail shattered the lie. Her first instinct was to call the police, but the warning rang in her ears. Don’t trust anyone. She plugged the phone into her laptop. A digital trace confirmed it: the call had originated from somewhere in Sukkur. Strange. Zayn had never even been there. The last known file attached to the message was corrupted, but she managed to retrieve GPS coordinates from the metadata. Her mind raced—who was chasing him? Why had he faked his death? And why contact her now? --- The next morning, Maya packed lightly and took the first train to Sukkur. With every mile, her anxiety built like a storm cloud. What if it was a trap? What if he really was dead, and someone was toying with her? By evening, she stood in front of a rusted, two-story warehouse near the riverbank, matching the coordinates. She slipped through the side gate. The inside was silent, filled with broken furniture, water tanks, and the heavy scent of oil and dust. Just as she was about to turn back, a weak voice called out: “…Maya?” She spun. He was thinner, his face hidden beneath a scruffy beard, but it was undeniably Zayn. He looked like he’d aged ten years in five. They stared at each other for a heartbeat before she lunged forward, hugging him like she would never let go. “I thought you were dead,” she whispered, choking back tears. “I had to disappear,” he said. “They were watching me.” --- Zayn explained everything. He had been working as a data analyst for a private defense contractor. One day, he’d uncovered classified files—proof that the company had been selling weapon schematics to black market groups. When he threatened to expose them, they framed him in a car accident and declared him dead. He survived, but barely. Since then, he had been on the run. “I’ve been hiding for years. But they found me again last week.” He handed her a flash drive. “This has everything. Names, accounts, the buyers. You’re the only one I can trust to get this out.” Maya took the drive, her hands trembling. “What are you going to do?” “I’ll keep running. But this time, you can finish what I started.” --- She returned to Karachi in silence, heart heavy but full of fire. The next few days were chaos. Maya leaked the documents anonymously through encrypted forums. Journalists picked it up like wildfire. Within a week, it was headline news. The government opened an investigation. Executives resigned. Arrests were made. But with every passing day, she feared retaliation. She changed phones, moved to a safe apartment, and stayed offline. A week later, another voicemail came. Just three words. “Thank you, sister.” She smiled for the first time in years.

Mid April: Seven Goals Accomplished
One more goal down! That's seven! It feels like a "Finally" moment, but it's been less than a month since I accomplished my last goal and began working on this one. The "Finally" feeling comes from fact that I began this project a while back and left it on hold for some time.
