Through the lens of my journey as a writer
Remember the times when we would yearn for certain things and beings to foster their being into our lives, where what we wanted was so far-fetched, dreams that we found so unfathomable to forge their breaths in our lives? It is wondrous and almost astonishing how existence in the most unimaginable ways, how we fathom that something we can never live without, life always turns out for the better when we let go of what no longer serves us, of what we can no longer control or any experience, person, entity or situation that we outgrow in our existential being.

Shameless?
I have criticisms. You'll note the pleural. At the end of August, I joined a local writers group on a trial basis. A "dark fiction" group. I'm not fussy. I'd have given it a whirl if it was romantic fiction, fantasy fiction, historical fiction, erotic fiction, young adult fiction, any kind of fiction. Actually maybe not science fiction. I think I would find myself distressingly bogged down in the research and become frustrated by my failure to invent, for the purpose of a small scene in the opening sequence of my story, a plausible mechanism for teleportation. But this was a "dark fiction" group. I had to write a kind of audition piece and everything. I wasn't really sure where the bounds of dark fiction lie, so I tried to go dark, but nor was I really sure where the bounds of dark fiction lie, so I tried not to go too dark. I'm still not really sure where the bounds of dark fiction lie, but I worry less.

My Top Story Index
When I got my first Top Story, I had a feeling of butterflies in my stomach. To this day, I feel elated when one of my stories gets this distinction, even though I believe some of them are not as worthy of this status as those of my stories that I really loved and poured my heart into but got left out. For example, I am still puzzled that neither of my two Sisyphus stories got a TS. But I am content with the fact that my stories are selected by Vocal, for whatever reason they are.

A World Beyond Shadows. AI-Generated.
My mind is filled with emptiness as I sit in a sunlit area of my house, reflecting on my spiritual awakening. Moments of being connected to something greater have left a lasting impression. Their mention of otherworldly locations was akin to my ignorance.

Life’s pressure only makes you stronger
It was a chilly Monday morning in New York City, and Emma, a struggling artist, sat in her tiny apartment staring at her empty canvas. Bills were piling up, her dream gallery rejected her work again, and she was contemplating giving up on her passion. “Maybe art isn’t for me,” she whispered, tears welling in her eyes.
