Sweating, Screaming and Fighting the Fan
A Guide to Absolutely Not Staying Cool

I had one simple goal today: stay cool. Not emotionally, not spiritually, not metaphorically. I mean physically. I would like to stop sweating like I’m being interrogated.
Unfortunately, the universe had other plans.
The fan? Blowing hot air with the confidence of a hair dryer.
The air conditioner? Making noises that suggest it has accepted death and is simply waiting for the paperwork.
The cold drink I made? Somehow warm within approximately twelve seconds.
The ice? Gone. Vanished. Apparently it saw the temperature outside and decided it wanted no part of this.
So now I’m sitting directly in front of the fan, holding a frozen water bottle against my face like I’m trying to revive myself after crossing the Sahara. I’ve opened every window, closed every curtain, and strategically placed myself in the one tiny patch of shade that exists in the entire house.
Someone walks in and asks, “Are you okay?”
No.
But I’m cooling down, and honestly, that’s the priority.
At this point, if standing in front of the refrigerator with the door open was socially acceptable, I’d be doing it. If I could climb into the freezer without becoming tomorrow’s frozen dinner, I would seriously consider it.
I’ve reached that special level of heat where even being annoyed requires too much energy.
So here I am: sweaty, cranky, slightly melted, and desperately negotiating with appliances.
“Please, fan. I’m begging you. Just give me one cold breeze.”
The fan continues blowing warm air.
Fine.
I’ll be over here, pretending I’m a Victorian woman dramatically fainting onto a chaise lounge.
Except there’s no chaise lounge.
Just the floor.
And frankly, the floor is cool.
The floor understands me.
