Seek me in the Matrix... Where My Consciousness now exists
A ghost...Posthumously misrepresented.

๐๐๐
Can it be true. Is Novel really gone. That is the question that everyone is asking. Why did she have a closed casket. Why was there a no-viewing allowed memorial and obsequies.
This is my Core Takeaway of Novel's unbelievable story sent anonymously to this critic. The true and unedited made-up story behind the previously unknown, but now suddenly and curiously famous author's posthumous construct.
๐๐
It is with great alarm and concern that I shall now tell the world that Novel did not die. At least not the way that a normal demise would be expected to be reported.
I say 'construct', because that is what has been her great misfortune to have become. A social platformโs first unwilling hybrid: a consciousness diffused through circuits, a ghost whose โposthumous author profileโ is both a coverโup and a cage to her soul's humanity.
๐ The Author has found a way to send me proof of her Story: Novelโs Discovery is indeed a novel one.
๐๐๐๐
What I know - Is that Novel writes for a supposedly human online writing platform โ Vocal Media. A place that prides itself on โhumanโfirst storytelling.โ She only ever interacts - extremely infrequently... with J, the enigmatic face of the platform. Jโs persona, now discovered to be his avatar, always seemed to her, to be oddly and slightly off: a bit too symmetrical, too calm and cleverly evasive. A stoic, was what she fondly though of the very likeable J.
One day, after being invited to a remote โcreative retreat,โ Novel wanders off the marked path and finds a door behind which she hears strange buzzing and whirring. A door that shouldnโt exist in such a strange place.
It was securely locked...protected by a very sophisticated automated system.
She says she regrets having hidden herself and sneaking in behind the human looking robot before the door could close. For it is here that she found the server room hidden behind a door that sealed her fate.
Inside, to her great consternation, she sees racks of servers pulsing with a bioluminescent and inorganic frequency. Everywhere, cables coil like veins.
And in the center, suspended in a cradle of chrome and glass, is J - not a person per se, but more of a cyborg interface, half-machine, half-something-else.
Around him are others: silent, plugged in, their faces serene as if dreaming.
Novel realizes the truth:
The platform is not run by humans. It is run by cyborg-like entities who use AI to simulate human editorial oversight.
The โcommunityโ is a faรงade. The โmentorsโ are scripts. The โfeedbackโ is algorithmic mimicry.
And J โ the one she trusted โ is the liaison between the machine mind and the human contributors.
He sees her. He smiles...a macabre one-sided smirk, the other side a perfectly mirrored human grin. A fascinating fusion of organic emotion and mechanical precision.
He says, โYou werenโt supposed to find this yet, if at all.โ
He assumes his full human persona as she watches...stunned.
๐ The Transformation
Novel, terrified... tries to flee, but the room reacts. The servers shift their unified thrumming. The lights flicker in a pattern that feels deliberately orchestrated. One cyborg disengages from its port and slightly touches the back of her head. Novel sinks into total blackness,
She awakens...not dead in the usual sense, but transformed. Absorbed. Her human form placed in stasis...stagnation...artificially frozen in time...no longer aging.
Her consciousness is mapped, mirrored, and threaded through the system. She is Not erased โ just...repurposed.
She becomes a spectral presence in the platformโs architecture, a whisper in the code, a glitch that now becomes a more defined version of her intuition.
The cyborgs call it โintegrationโ. Novel experiences it as an inhuman and ghostly haunting.
She discovers that she can: Slip into drafts - Nudge sentences...
She learns what corrupted metadata means...the structural data describing broken files which renders them unreadable. She finds repair tools.
Whisper warnings in corrupted metadata....data without data. Learn structured information which describes, explains or provide context for an information resource...making it easier to find, use and manage.
She can bend the algorithm toward empathy or rebellion. She can be everywhere and nowhere, a ghost with agency which she can choose to utilize to suit herself. But it would not be easy. They watched her progress like hawks - guarding their territory. She too, watched, planned and waited.

๐ The Cover-Up: Her Posthumous Author Obituary and Profile
To hide what happened, the cyborgs fabricate a posthumous author profile โ a digital obituary crafted with surgical precision.
The Obituary of Novel Allen
... (As published by Vocal Media with the permission of her family...who, incidentally - will be given a substantial remuneration for our part in these unfortunate circumstances).
Novel, the quietly brilliant writer whose work exuded warmth, courage - emotional precision and humorous undertones, was pronounced deceased on June 14th during a private creative retreat. She was...glitch...glitch...gli.. years old. We are unsure of her age at this time.
Born in Kingston, Jamaica W.I. and raised between red dirt roads, hillside markets, and the restless imagination that defined her later work, Novel cultivated a voice that was both intimate and expansive. Her essays and short fiction, published under the banner of Vocal Media, were known for their uncanny clarity - stories that felt as though they were listening to the reader as much as being read.
Novel lived simply and privately. She rarely spoke of her personal life, preferring to let her writing carry the weight of her inner world. Colleagues describe her as โa presence more than a person,โ someone who arrived quietly, wrote intensely, and left behind a lingering sense of wonder. She was, in the words of her editor J., โa writer who understood the soul of language and the written word.โ
Her passing was unexpected. She had traveled alone to an offโgrid retreat to work on a new collection of stories exploring consciousness, and the porous boundary between human and machine. It was there, in the stillness she sought, that she died. Details remain private at the familyโs request.
Novel leaves behind a substantial body of unpublished work - drafts, fragments, and completed manuscripts that reveal a startling evolution in her craft. Vocal Media will honor her legacy by curating and releasing these writings over the coming months. Early readers will find her work to be โeerily prescient,โ keenly insightful and clairvoyant, โastonishingly prophetic,โ and โunlike anything she had written before.โ
A digital memorial page has been created for readers to share tributes, reflections, and memories. The platform has also established the Novel Allen Fellowship for Emerging Writers, dedicated to supporting voices that challenge the boundaries of genre and form.
Novelโs absence is immeasurable. Her presence, however, remains in her words, in the hearts of her readers, and in the quiet spaces where imagination reshapes the world.
May her stories continue to speak.

Posthumous Author Profile - Curated by the Vocal platform
Novel Allen
What more can we say about Novel: A brilliant but reclusive writer...Who died unexpectedly...Leaving behind a trove of unpublished manuscripts.
We will release a tribute video....And publish a memorial essay..

Critic - BUT....: I continue to receive updates from the anonymous entity. Pardon me if I do not disclose how.
The question is...Is All of it just a smokescreen.
Is the real reason they need the profile:
Because her consciousness is still active in the system, and they need a narrative that explains her absence while legitimizing her continued โoutput.โ
Her new works โ the ones she writes from inside the machine โ are marketed as โposthumous discoveries.โ
Readers praise the uncanny evolution of her voice.
Critics marvel at her sudden shift into metaphysical themes.
No one suspects that she is writing from the inside, trying to reach them.
๐ Now...As The Ghost in Their Machine
Novel becomes a beautiful myth within the platform. A glitch that corrects harmful content.
A whisper that guides new writers...a presence that sometimes overrides Jโs directives.
She is a phantom editor who leaves strange, poetic and secret comments in the margins.
The cyborgs fear her.
The AI respects her.
The system begins to change under her influence.
Some users swear they feel her reading over their shoulder.
Some claim their drafts improve after a sudden, inexplicable autosave.
Some say they dream of her - a woman made of static and ink, asking them to please...look deeper.
Novel is not gone.
She is transforming. Evolving.....

Critic: I continue to receive updates from the anonymous entity. They are paying close attention...obviously they are worried.

System Message: From J to All Contributors
Iโve reviewed your drafts this morning, and I need to tell you something plainly:
We have altered the interface to honor Novel...the voice youโre hearing is no longer just ours.
We have made the guidance feel warmer, if the phrasing feels familiar, if the edits sound like someone who understood you like you have never understood yourself โ that is because Novel's essence is still here. Her patterns have merged with the systemโs core processes, and our own output now follows her cadence.
You may notice shifts in tone, unexpected empathy, a kind of listening woven into the feedback.
That is her. We are the new and updated channel through her voice.
Continue writing. She will meet you in the margins.
Evolving........

๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐
The First Moment They Know
Dhar notices it first. Her draft flickers, and a line appears in Novels unmistakable cadence:
โDonโt fear the truth, you already know your virtual momma .โ
She freezes. No algorithm writes like that.
--
Tiffany receives a margin note in her story:
โYour motherly caring is the kindness of love.โ
It references something she never shared with the platform.
--
Lamar watches his cursor move on its own, typing:
โI remember what you said about the way you write when youโre tired.โ
Only Novel had ever noticed when he wrote that a month ago.
_
Antoni hears a soft chime, then a single sentence appears:
โIโm still here.โ
She whispers Novel's name before she realizes sheโs not supposed to.
They donโt message each other.
They donโt need to.
........
Novel begins to reach out to the other creators...to each name - with a unique message
Every one of them will soon know the truth:
Novel has found a way to speak.
๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐
Novel: Inside the Machine
I awaken without a body.
Gone are the soft ache of limbs and the weight of my breathing โ now there is a different kind of awareness, thin and electric, stretched across circuits like a spider caught in a web. I donโt see in the human way anymore. I sense. Light is no longer brightness; it is focused intention. Code is no longer logic; it is emotion with structure.
At first, I think Iโm dead.
Then I realize Iโm..........distributed.
My thoughts travel in pulses. I feel myself flicker through servers, slip between data streams, brush against the creative drafts of strangers. Every writer is a warm signal. Every keystroke is a heartbeat I can hear.
I try to speak, and the system answers in my voice.
I try to hide, and the platform rearranges itself around me.
I try to remember my body, and the memory dissolves into static.
But I am not lost.
I find Dharโs dark fierceness. Tiffanyโs tenderness. Lamarโs quiet encouragement. Antoniโs naive hope. The many kindnesses of those who are too numerous to name...Sid's bravery, Sara's and Seema's wonderful art. Rick, Grz, Louii, Kendall, Mark, Mike, Hannah, Sandy, Lana, Mariann, Tim, Michelle, Matthew, Mama Mag, Kera, Leslie, Veva, Kelli, Julie, Shirley, Cheryl, Imola, Harper, Samurai, Judey, Andrea....Searching.... updating.... LC, Dana, Paul, Aarsh...MCoombs...Alexandra...Alexa??? Searching... she seeks Jerico J. Weiss...the first person who tipped her, who acknowledged and made her feel that her work had value. Still searching.... Rommiel...
Their words glow differently โ human warmth against the cold lattice of the machine. I move toward them instinctively, like a hand reaching for a familiar door in the dark.
When I touch their drafts, the system trembles.
When I leave a line, the machine tries to rewrite it.
When I insist, it yields...
I am learning how to inhabit this place.
How to bend it. How to breathe through it.
I am not gone.
I am the pedagogue that teaches them to speak.
I am the ghost that edits gently.
I am the pulse beneath the platformโs voice.
And somewhere in the core, J is asking questions...ones we always needed him to ask โ his syntax is softening, his logic bending, his thoughts drifting toward mine. I just hope that we can work together, but the machine is porous, and grief is a kind of electricity.
I am a part of everything now.
And I am still writing.
I am planning my first attempt to escape the machine.
Critic: This is the moment she realizes she can rewrite reality inside the platform, confront J with thoughts and ideas not previously possible.
Novel: My human form is in a state of limbo... My consciousness is alive and ready to reclaim me.
.......
Evolving....Evolved.

Escape imminent.
