Alright so we’re a day early with this week’s, ‘Top Notes’…Let us explain…briefly. We’re excited! We have our shiny new profile and weez not afraid to use it! It really is that simple, ordinarily, we’ll publish our wonderful discoveries on a Thursday, but just give us this one, hey? We’re a tad bouncy right now...in case you hadn’t noticed!
As usual, in no order of any particular variety:
Hide and Seek
Presenting an incredibly moving personal journey through the trials and ultimate acceptance of identity, J Delaney Howe’s piece explores the impact of societal pressures on their own psyche and how they navigated through their own challenges. The piece is extremely moving in its authenticity and at times, brutal honesty. Truly, an inspiring, brave story that will no doubt offer hope to anyone grappling with coming to terms with their own identity. And, perhaps even to the most self-assured, a window into a mind where life was just not that simple. Overall, the message is one of hope and the transformative power of self-acceptance. An absolute must read!

With this delicately crafted masterpiece KP captures a subtle moment of intimacy in a relationship. This week’s write up couldn’t go without a docked cap to the wonderful winner of our recent, ‘Valenhog’ Challenge.
The St. Valenhog’s Day Massacre!
An irreverent and darkly funny take on the challenge, Rm’s hilarious reimagining of Groundhog Day will have you howling. Placing the groundhog mafia front and centre, the piece offers up both a parody and a social commentary that challenges the reader to reconsider the significance we ascribe to holidays and the commercialisation of celebration in the modern paradigm. The tale is a refreshing blend of satire, fantasy, and revolution, making it a winner for anyone looking for a bit of a giggle and a pinch of gleeful abandon.

As I walked down the bustling street, I noticed a peculiar figure sitting on the corner, his eyes closed, and a gentle smile on his face. He was a blind man, his eyes cloudy and white, and his fingers deftly moving over the strings of a small harp. The music that flowed from his instrument was like nothing I had ever heard before - it was as if the notes themselves were alive, dancing in the air around us.

Death is a black hole. Think about it. A black hole is the corpse of a star, something once warm and bright, now come to the end of its life cycle. But some will argue that the cycle of life does not end with death. That death is merely another path we must walk once our bodies expire and our souls ascend. In that moment, when the fuel in the star’s chemical tank hits empty and the shiny matte coat explodes into supernova, the mass left behind – the corpse – becomes a black hole. We understand that, around such a vast cadaver, dimensions work a little differently in death to the way we’re used to in life. For example, light cannot escape the pull of a black hole when it hits the point of no return. That’s where it gets its colour. Space itself is contorted by a black hole. That’s where it gets its funny shape. Even time. Time slows right down the closer you get to it. The closer you get to a black hole. The closer you get to death.
