Precipice: Dreams of the Fall - Announcement

In the year 2285, a mysterious event occurs in which hundreds of bodies wash ashore TRUEcit, the last surviving bastion of human ingenuity and prosperity.

Among the bodies is a survivor named Avery Thompson, whose memories of her past and where she came from have become fragmented. Her rescuer, a TRUECorp employee by the name of Nikolai Garcia, offers his aid in her recovery.

However, in the wake of this event TRUECorp begins demanding answers, and Nikolai is faced with an impossible choice: will he assist the corporation in its vision for saving humanity from impending doom, or will he risk it all to help Avery reassemble her fractured memory?

Hey there, Vocal family!

As you can see, I got an exciting announcement to deliver today!! Me and the amazing Ian Read have been working on our first ever collaboration: Precipice: Dreams of the Fall.

We've both wanted to collaborate on something for a while now, but have only recently settled on this idea that we both greatly enjoy.

To sum it up, Precipice: Dreams of the Fall is going to be a multi-chapter short story that brings in the setting and feel of a cyber-punk city and the mystery and mind-twisting madness of cosmic horror. These are both genres we are familiar with but have varying degrees of experience writing, which called to both of us as we do love our challenges!!

Plus, the weird and wacky way this idea came about spoke to both of our chaotic personalities.

Inspirations

From Lovecraftian horror to baby sharks (?????) we spared no expense in pulling from some of our favorite horror and cyber-futuristic literature and media.

We pulled inspiration from Lovecraft's From Beyond and Polaris, and works of both classic and modern horror from Mary Shelly's Frankenstein and Mexican Gothic's author Silvia Moreno-Garcia.

On the cyber-punk side we have both animated and live-action movies like Ghost in the Shell ( 1996 ver. ), Bladerunner, Cyberpunk 2077 and Edgerunners.

Special Notes from the Authors

"I have always been a fan of cosmic horror and speculative fiction. What fascinates me about both genres is human perception, the way the brain handles the strange and outlandish and how the world is seen through other's eyes. This series allowed me to peer into the minds of two fascinating characters of the same age with two extremely different lived experiences. From the moment I first sat down with Amanda and began the first outlines, I knew this was going to be something spectacular." - Ian Read

One night many months ago I had a dream about a certain girl navigating a cyber-punk city. This idea barely got anywhere in my drafts since I was more of a dark fantasy writer, and when me and Ian were brainstorming ideas for our collaboration, I decided to throw my weird and somewhat random sci-fi idea onto the table. If it was anyone other than Ian, I don't think this story would have grown the wings it did. It's truly a joy and a wonder to work with someone who knows the genre so well.
