Pomegranates

my first poetry collection

By Harper Lewis Published 4 months ago • 1 min read
My book!

Around this time last year, I saw the Bookleaf Publishing poetry challenge on Facebook. I had just begun writing again in March after a twenty-something year drought with brief, rare shower here and there. I signed up. I’m not going to encourage you to do the same. If you want to self-publish, check out the package Barnes & Noble offers. You’ll spend a little more out of the gate, but you get what you pay for. Seriously, Bookleaf is a nightmare who only sends bot responses to emails addressing breaches of contract. It was so severe that my state AG opened an investigation, and I also have an FCC complaint on file. Avoid Bookleaf.

My collection, titled Pomegranates, is a collection of, you guessed it, Persephone and Hades poetry, and Demeter speaksas well.

I’ve sold a few copies, but I don’t even expect to break even. This is a special collection for someone very dear to my heart, my first love, who is a forever love, though we’re not together. Staying together was never our strong suit. Magical moments, that’s where we shine, and what is life but a series of moments held together by the doldrums of survival?

If you’re one if those people with that elusive disposable income I hear so much about, I would like to encourage you to dispose some of it ($10) on my book. There’s no graphic erotica, but it’s pretty steamy—after all, Persephone and Hades are lovers caught in a cycle of departure and reunion, descension and ascension.

The two poems above are not in the collection; both were written after I submitted my manuscript. However, the one below is from the collection, possibly my favorite from it.

Please take a look if you’re interested, and if you like it, please buy my book! Who knows, maybe one day it will be sought after and hard to come by (but I won’t hold my breath or quit my job).

Thank you for your support!
