Welcome to another deep read on something I believe is intriguing, yes sometimes a scary aspect of falling into another life-like realm of existence. Is there ever a moment you suddenly wake up very quickly realizing you were just dreaming? Or it could play out like your forcing yourself to get out of whatever circumstances you are in, and then Boom! Your awake again. We can all agree that Dreaming is universally the human experience that has puzzled scientists and philosophers for centuries, and maybe centuries more to come. Every night, or day we sleep, now while our minds are asleep there are many vivid, immersive worlds that can be both fascinating and frightening. So in this article let’s go into the mystery of Dreaming. Exploring what happens when we do sleep, why we might be Dreaming, and the possibilities of benefiting for this process.

DREAMING

First let’s discuss what we think we know about what happens during sleep. Sleep is a dynamic state sorted into periods of rapid eye movement, (REM) and non rapid eye movement, (NREM). REM sleep occurs every 90 minutes and can last around 20-30 minutes. During this stage the brain waves slow down to match the frequency of waking consciousness, and the body experiences temporary paralysis to prevent acting out dreams. NREM sleep, on the other hand is by slower brain waves and decreased body temperature. This stage is vital for physical restoration and memory consolidation.

The second question is, Why do we Dream? Well from what I’ve found through extensive research on this question is, the exact function of Dreaming remains unknown. However I did find several theories that emerged to explain its purpose. I agree with the statements of Theory, it’s always nice to think outside of the standard framework of the how, or why something is. I find that it’s very exciting, the many different outcomes, and the unknowns that come with thinking like this.

-Emotion Regulation Theory: According to this theory our dreaming helps us regulate our emotions and process difficult experiences from our past. Dreaming about our unresolved conflicts or traumatic experiences, could be an attempt to work through those issues and find closure.

-Memory Consolidation Theory: A theory that purposes dreaming helps solidify memories and integrate new information into our existing knowledge framework. An during our sleep the brain replays and processes these memories, strengthening their connections and improving retention.

-Evolutionary Advantage Theory: I particularly wanted to mention this theory, because I see a sense of it in my own personal experiences with dreaming. It mentions that dreaming has evolved as a way to prepare our bodies for potential threats or dangers. To give an example of this, think as if there was something dangerous nearby, our brains might rehearse a flight response during dreaming to help insure our own survival.

My third and final point is the potential benefits of dreaming. Yes, dreaming is sometimes random and sometimes doesn’t make any sense. I would say these few things, are what I often find dreaming does for my benefits.

-Enhanced Creativity: Dreaming has allowed me to think outside the standard framework of thinking. Coming up with innovative ideas such as writing this article. Especially since writing is completely new to me.

-Stress Relief: Sleeping is always good. Dreaming helps expand on reality, and helps provide the relaxation needed to focus on the task at hand. Also who doesn't want a little less stress.

-Emotional Processing: This is definitely a benefit for dreaming. Helping us walk through the unresolved emotions and traumas, leading to our greater emotional resilience. The more we learn about ourselves, the greater we can be towards others.

-Lastly, Our Personal Growth: Through dreaming we may gain some insight to ourselves and our motivations, helping us become better versions of ourselves. Having to ability to recognize your own growth through these insights is one of the many great feelings dreaming does bring to us.

So In closing, I agree that Dreaming is a complex and intriguing aspect of our human behavior. While we still have many questions that may have not specifically gotten covered in this article about our dreams, one that is very clear -it plays a vital role in our overall wellbeing. Offering us potential benefits ranging from enhanced creativity to stress relief. Lets all continue to explore the mysteries of Dreaming, we may even uncover more surprising insights into the workings of our minds.
