A rough draft of my imagined cover

I’ve always wanted to write a book for as long as I can remember. Even more than that, I’ve always wanted to be a writer. My desire to write happened shortly after I learned how to read and write. It was one of my childhood dreams and after all this time, as my writing has grown and changed, and I developed my thoughts on writing and improved, I’ve never outgrown the desire.

As I’ve mentioned in one of my previous articles, I’ve decided to serialize my story on Kindle Vella. On Kindle Vella which is part of Amazon, you pay for tokens to read episodes. It’s 1 token per 100 words. The first 3 episodes are always free and that goes for all episodes on the platform!

While I've been publishing my story on Kindle Vella, I've actually been working on it a little while before Kindle Vella was even a thing.

As with any writer and their stories , the plot of my story has changed, at times significantly, from when I first started writing it. Scenes have been moved around or simply deleted. New characters have come into my story that I didn’t even fathom being in it. I’ve learned so much about the characters that were in my story right from the beginning. I found out that some of my side characters demand attention while other characters are so much more than meets the eye.

Serialized stories on Kindle Vella are published as episodes instead of chapters. Because of this, I thought it would be fun to tell you a little bit about my story which is a sci — fi adventure / thriller in a T.V. show synopsis format.

While I can kind of see my story being some sort of sci-fi drama T.V. series, I’ve always imagined it being adapted into a movie 😉. As a writer, it’s always fun just to imagine these sorts of things no matter how unlikely they would be to happen.

This will be a fun challenge as a way to tell you more about my story and it will help me keep track of where my story is going plot wise. I’ll try to keep each episode summary short and to the point as a TV episode blurb is supposed should be. Here it is up to episode 12.

(science fiction, drama, suspense)

Donovan Stowe, a young man full of wonder suddenly finds himself ripped from his ordinary life and in the world of Illumina where the most unimaginable and advanced technologies are just part of everyday life. Hoping to find a way back home, his discoveries only lead him to a highly advanced tech research facility called Insight. Donovan’s unusual fascination of everyday technology captures the immediate attention of the formidable Dr. Maddox. Before long, Donovan finds himself caught between projects full of obsession and fascination and desperately searching for a way back home.

Episode 1: “What if?”

22 year old Donovan Stowe is tired of his job at the Grind video game store. Spending too much time day dreaming, he makes poor decisions that almost cost him his job.

Episode 2: “Second Chances; debating thoughts”

Mr. Hovudson, the video game store manager, gives Donovan another chance after the shoplifting incident. Completely exhausted and mentally drained with almost losing his job, Donovan takes a walk that night after work to clear his mind and things begin to take a very strange turn.

Episode 3: “Illumina”

Donovan suddenly finds himself in a strange city called Illumina. He discovers more and more about this city as he thinks of how he’s going to get home, if that’s even possible. Donovan also discovers something that should be impossible yet is very real. He also learns about a very influential and highly advanced tech research facility called Insight.

Episode 4: “Absolutely Impossible”

Intrigued and curious, Donovan teleports to the Insight Technologies research facility in hopes of learning more about it. He meets the head scientist, Dr. Maverick and learns just enough about the research facility, and discovers something very peculiar about himself.

Episode 5: “Insight’s Strange Visitor”

A scientist named Maddox becomes intrigued yet highly doubtful about Donovan’s strange and impossible dilemma. The reality of just how different Donovan is really sinks in and uncomfortably so.

Episode 6: “The Personal Connection Code (Pt. 1)”

Maddox becomes even more curious and suspicious of the strange visitor, Donovan Stowe. Donovan is given news that obtaining a certain device known as a Personal Connection Code isn’t just a suggestion but a must!

Episode 7: “The Personal Connection Code (Pt. 2)”

Donovan receives a communication / tracking device that Insight has called, “The Personal Connection Code” or simply PCC. Insertion of this device, changes his life as he knows it.

Episode 8 “The Desire for Knowledge”

Deeply fascinated by it, Donovan tests out and eventually gets used to having a Personal Connection Code. He wants to learn more about the technologies here in Illumina.

Episode 9 “Dr. Maddox”

The lead overseeing scientist of Insight’s tech lab cannot get his mind off Donovan and how peculiar he seems; Donovan uses the Info Vaults for the first time.

Episode 10 “The Time Simulator”

Donovan learns that a form of time travel exists. The idea that he is stuck here in this world indefinitely begins to sink in.

Episode 11 “For the Love of the Technologically Unfathomable”

After his experience inside the info vault as well as the other technologies he’s stumbled upon, Donovan becomes even more intrigued and wants to get involved with working at Insight.

Episode 12 “Delusional, Foolish, yet Passionate”

Donovan runs into the all too intimidating Dr. Maddox yet again and learns even more about what it takes to become a scientist at Insight; Dr. Maddox starts to make it his mission to get Donovan into Insight.

It was fun writing this all as an episode to a TV series!
