Growing up my family wasn't very religious. Personally, I'm a staunch atheist.
Mum went through a phase of being heavily involved with the church, but I think it was more about the social connection than religion. She always had to be the main character, so when she found a church that was made up almost entirely of over 60's and she was welcomed as 'fresh'blood' as a 40-something, she kept going because she was the centre of attention. At least thats how I interpret it, thirty years later and from childhood memories. I don't even remember what flavour of Christianity that church was.
Gran was probably the most religious of all of us. She went to church every Sunday. If we were staying with her, she took us along. I remember one time we were with her for Christmas and we got to go to a midnight service on Christmas Eve. I found that exciting as a child.
I think that Gran's church was Anglican. They had communion, but I don't think they had mass. To be honest, I'm not really sure what mass actually is. As far as I know it's a Catholic thing?
Religion has always seemed an odd thing to me.
