As the film crossed 2018's record in just 21 days, expectations are high that Manjummel Boys will become the first-ever Malayalam film to gross Rs 200 crore globally.

When Jude Anthany Joseph’s 2018 – Everyone is a Hero emerged as the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time, earning Rs 175 crore globally, it ended a seven-year reign held by director Vysakh’s Mohanlal-starrer Pulimurugan, which had earned over Rs 139 crore in 2016. However, 2018’s record was short-lived, as another survival genre film, director Chidambaram’s Manjummel Boys, surpassed it recently to claim the top spot.

As the film zoomed past the Rs 176 crore mark worldwide in just 21 days, expectations are high that Manjummel Boys will become the first-ever Malayalam film to gross Rs 200 crore globally, setting another milestone. According to Cue Studio, Manjummel Boys overtook Pulimurugan’s collection of Rs 139.5 crore in just 17 days and surpassed 2018’s total gross of Rs 175.6 crore on Friday.

Now, reports have emerged that Manjummel Boys’ collection, as of Sunday noon, has touched Rs 180 crore. Industry tracker AB George wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Manjummel Boys Worldwide Gross Collection till now — 180 Crore+ 🔥🔥🔥 All-time blockbuster 🔥🔥🔥” On the other hand, entertainment industry expert Ramesh Bala recently announced that Manjummel Boys has scripted history by becoming the first non-Tamil Indian movie, without a Tamil dubbed version, to breach the Rs 50 crore gross mark in Tamil Nadu.

While the morning shows had 25.38 per cent occupancy, the figure witnessed an upward trend throughout the day, rising to 34.56 per cent in the afternoon, 44.30 per cent during the evening shows, and peaking at 50.02 per cent during the night shows.

In Kerala, Manjummel Boys earned Rs 1.10 crore on Saturday, as reported by the local industry tracker What The Fuss, with 70,190 admissions across 807 shows, achieving an occupancy rate of 30.16 per cent collectively.

In its review of the movie and noted, “Chidambaram’s survival thriller is about hope, resilience and perseverance, and the fact that it is based on a true story makes it even more impactful.”

Expectations are high that Manjummel Boys would become the first Malayalam film to ever gross Rs 200 crore worldwide, since the movie broke 2018's record in just 21 days.

After bringing in over Rs 139 crore in 2016, the Mohanlal-starring film Pulimurugan, directed by Vysakh, held the record for seven years. However, Jude Anthany Joseph's 2018 film Everyone is a Hero broke that record by earning Rs 175 crore worldwide. But the record for 2018 was short-lived, as Manjummel Boys, a survival genre movie directed by Chidambaram, just overtook it to take the top spot.
