In case some of you aren't aware, I'm a super nerd. I'm just a couple of grammar police convictions away from earning my cape, and I'm super excited about it. In addition to caring about the grammar of this beautiful train wreck of a language we use to make meaning out of squiggly lines, I lke the partsof speech, the way they work together, the system of language. That's why Mad Libs have always delighted me. I started this series two weeks ago as a distracton to help take the edge off waiting for challenge results. I'll post the third one today, and I'm alternating poetry and prose, so we're back to poetry in the next one.

Only four people played last week, but quality over quantity has always been my maxim. Here are their delightful corruptions of Moby Dick's opening paragraph. I'll include the original text for your nerdy delight (or mine).

Herman

Call me Ishmael. Some years ago- never mind how long precisely- having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me on shore, I thought I would sail about a little and see the watery part of the world. It is a way I have of driving off the spleen and regulating the circulation. Whenever I find myself growing grim about the mouth; whenever it is a damp, drizzly November in my soul; whenever I find myself involuntarily pausing before coffin warehouses, and bringing up the rear of every funeral I meet; and especially whenever my hypos get such an upper hand of me, that it requires a strong moral principle to prevent me from deliberately stepping into the street, and methodically knocking people's hats off- then, I account it high time to get to sea as soon as I can. This is my substitute for pistol and ball. With a philosophical flourish Cato throws himself upon his sword; I quietly take to the ship. There is nothing surprising in this. If they but knew it, almost all men in their degree, some time or other, cherish very nearly the same feelings towards the ocean with me.

Julie

Call me Madison. Some years ago- never mind how long precisely- having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to fly me on shore, I thought I would sail about a little and see the beautiful part of the world. It is a way I have of driving off the spleen and flying the circulation. Whenever I find myself growing sleek about the mouth; whenever it is a damp, drizzly Solara in my soul; whenever I find myself involuntarily pausing before passersby, and bringing up the rear of every funeral I meet; and especially whenever my hypos get such an upper eye of me, that it requires a strong moral sky to prevent me from smartly stepping into the cell phone, and methodically knocking people's computers off- then, I account it high time to get to club membership as soon as I can. This is my substitute for pistol and ball. With a philosophical flourish Santa Claus throws himself upon his plane; I quietly take to the ship. There is nothing surprising in this. If they but knew it, almost all passengers in their degree, some time or other, cherish very nearly the same feelings towards the computer with her.

Mikey

Call me Leonardo. Some years ago- never mind how long precisely- having little or no tower in my purse, and nothing particular to run me on shore, I thought I would sail about a little and see the black part of the world. It is a way I have of driving off the spleen and washing the circulation. Whenever I find myself growing wet about the mouth; whenever it is a damp, drizzly Minster in my bike; whenever I find myself involuntarily pausing before birdcages, and bringing up the rear of every funeral I meet; and especially whenever my hypos get such an upper arm of me, that it requires a strong moral foot to prevent me from very stepping into the sky, and methodically knocking people's 1ground off- then, I account it high time to get to sea soon as I can. This is my substitute for pistol and ball. With a philosophical flourish Cheops throws himself upon his road; I quietly take to the ship. There is nothing surprising in this. If they but knew it, almost all sheep in their degree, some time or other, cherish very nearly the same feelings towards the carpet with it.

Mother Combs

Call me Rowan. Some years ago- never mind how long precisely- having little or no package in my purse, and nothing particular to run me on shore, I thought I would sail about a little and see the green part of the world. It is a way I have of driving off the spleen and sleeping the circulation. Whenever I find myself growing rapt about the mouth; whenever it is a damp, drizzly Ford Fusion in my gecko; whenever I find myself involuntarily pausing before passersby, and bringing up the rear of every funeral I meet; and especially whenever my hypos get such an upper toe of me, that it requires a strong moral lemon to prevent me from rarely stepping into the lawn, and methodically knocking people's flowerbed off- then, I account it high time to get to sidewalk as soon as I can. This is my substitute for pistol and ball. With a philosophical flourish Abe Lincoln throws himself upon his cabin; I quietly take to the ship. There is nothing surprising in this. If they but knew it, almost all turtles in their degree, some time or other, cherish very nearly the same feelings towards the fudge with them.

Sasha

Call me Rebecca. Some years ago- never mind how long precisely- having little or no sky in my purse, and nothing particular dance me on shore, I thought I would sail about a little and see the profound part of the world. It is a way I have of driving off the spleen and choking the circulation. Whenever I find myself growing amaranthine about the mouth; whenever it is a damp, drizzly Amsterdam in my confusion; whenever I find myself involuntarily pausing before ice creams, and bringing up the rear of every funeral I meet; and especially whenever my hypos get such an upper belly button of me, that it requires a strong moral wizard to prevent me from royally stepping into the joke, and methodically knocking people's list off- then, I account it high time to get to fog as soon as I can. This is my substitute for pistol and ball. With a philosophical flourish Julius Caesar throws himself upon his dusk; I quietly take to the ship. There is nothing surprising in this. If they but knew it, almost all thorns in their degree, some time or other, cherish very nearly the same feelings towards the bug with us.

I hope everyone enjoyed the respite from biting your fingernails, knuckles, jellybeans, or rocks. Best of luck in the challenges, everyone!
