I don't change my bed linens nearly often enough. I know this. I know it's gross. But it's one of those tasks that just seem so huge that taking that first step to actually do it is practically insurmountable. Compound that with the number of times I've started the job, but not finished it, and then when bedtime rolls around the bed is unmade. I've usually just slept on the unmade bed. No sheet on the mattress, no cover on the duvet, no pillow covers.

I'm not sure I actually believe people who say they change their sheets weekly. How do they have the energy to change the sheets and get the washing done every single week?

At my worst, I could say that I surely went at least six months without a sheet change. Pretty gross, but when you live with depression and probably other neurodivergences, that's just how life is sometimes. Don't ask how often my floor was vacuumed before I bought a robo-vac.

I'm not so bad these days. Between my spouse and myself, we keep a much cleaner home than we used to. We have a calendar reminder to change the sheets once a month. So we both get reminded. We decided a month was a manageable time frame. Weekly is out of the question. We think we can maybe move up to fortnightly one day. But for now, fresh linens once a month is the best we can manage.

We're both works in progress when it comes to housekeeping.
