I was taught that love comes with conditions and that love can be bought. I learnt that it was their way or the highway I was taught people can't be trusted and isolation from the world was for the best. I learnt that your biggest haters are the ones who share dinner with you. I was taught to hide my emotions, that tears were for the weak.
I learnt that love was just an excuse for abuse. I was taught to put my feelings in a box, that they were not worth it. I learnt that love and fear could go hand in hand cause how can you love someone you fear? I was taught to use people instead of making genuine connections. I learnt that no man is an island.
I was taught to put family first, above all things. I learnt that you can't always choose the ones you love. I was taught to tone it down when I spoke too much. I learnt how to put up a farce, how to hide my true self. I was taught that relationships aren't peaceful. I learnt how to protect my peace. I was taught that failure wasn't an option.
Who am I? I'm just a child who just wanted to be loved.
