Keep a Good Face in Bad Weather (Put on a brave face)
This poem belongs to Chapter 2: Latin American Popular Sayings with a Soulful Adaptation. (When choosing to keep your inner light turns storms into calm.)

They say:
“Keep a good face in bad weather.”
But this isn’t just a saying—
it’s a decision.
A way of living.
I wasn’t always the best person,
because this world, sadly,
is full of people who hurt others.
And for a long time,
I responded the same way.
Until one day,
a being of light came into my life
and taught me something I’d never thought of before:
Those who hurt,
were once hurt themselves.
And that phrase…
touched a core within me.
That’s when I decided to change.
Not to seem better,
but because I didn’t want to keep
repeating society’s patterns.
At first, it was hard.
I didn’t do it naturally,
but I knew that if I responded with anger,
I’d only keep feeding that toxic energy.
So I began to respond differently.
When someone spoke badly to me,
I answered with respect.
When someone treated me with hate,
I met them with love.
And over time…
it became part of me.
It wasn’t fake anymore.
And something incredible began to happen:
the people around me started to change too.
Without even realizing it,
I was also healing other people’s wounds.
I won’t lie:
the bad things didn’t stop.
Hard moments still came my way.
People who hurt me.
Unfair situations.
But even then,
I chose to keep a good face.
Not because it was easy,
but because I understood
that the hard part isn’t what happens—
it’s how you decide to face it.
And one day, without realizing it…
it wasn’t effort anymore.
It wasn’t a strategy.
It was just me.
And finally, the good things began to come.
Stability.
Kind people.
Beings of light.
I started to feel good
inside and out.
People noticed.
“You look different,” they said.
Today, I have many good things.
But even so,
difficult moments still come.
The difference is now,
I don’t get lost in them.
Because I understood
that keeping a good face
isn’t a mask.
It’s a choice.
And when you don’t betray your light,
the universe, sooner or later,
responds with the same energy.
So today I can say,
with all my truth:
Keep a good face in bad weather.
Not as consolation,
but as a banner
painted deep inside me.
