Stealing from myself.../Stolen lines:

(She smiled as she pulled from her apron, a doll)

she said, say these words, on this paper, I scrawled.)

They say to be careful

in the ways of magic and love

Both should be handled

with a pair of kid gloves

*

But I was certain my fate

had been spared repercussion

Simply cleaning a slate

following mamas instructions

*

She lived a good life

doing the best that she could

Through life's toils and strife

she always tried to choose good

*

Only twice do I remember

her taking fate into her hands

It was the end of December

she dealt dark cards to a man

*

Paying fate back with fate

protecting a heart filled with love

Without malice or hate

punishment that fit like a glove

*

She smiled as she pulled from her apron, a doll

she said, say these words, on this paper, I scrawled

And I said them gladly, without exception

only knowing now, what was there, in my reflection

*

Would haunt me forever

now that mama has passed

My fate changed like the weather

from the spell that was cast

*

And he weaves in and out

of my mirror, like a dream

And even though I shout

no one can hear my screams

*

They are masked by his laughter

at his untimely release

Mama couldn't know he'd come after

her death, to find me

*

The voodoo in that doll

held only limited power

Out of hell he came calling

my soul to devour

*
When the sun rises

he returns to rest in the depths

Keeping close eye on the horizons

his agreement with death

*
So I made a deal of my own

with the likes of the devil

So he would leave me alone

staying buried under my pedals

*
I retrieved that old doll

from the grips of my mama

Pressed the pin in and called

on the swift hand of karma

*
Now each night I stand proud

in the reflection of mine

Protected in her shroud

for forever this time

*
Then, as agreed, I surrendered

the doll to the hands of fate

Nevermore could I render

another soul to hells gate

*
But I kept that pin

wholly as a reminder

I'd never play fool again

and mixed my blood as the binder

*
I stood there, over my mama

and placed those flowers on her grave

I'd keep my vow made to karma

and she'll keep him enslaved
