I Woke Up in 2050 and Nobody Uses Money Anymore
In a futuristic world where AI controls everything and money has disappeared, one man discovers a terrifying truth that forces him to choose between perfect comfort and true freedom.

I Woke Up in 2050 and Nobody Uses Money Anymore The first thing I noticed was the silence. Not the peaceful kind of silence you hear early in the morning. This was different. The city outside my window was alive, yet somehow almost completely quiet. I sat up in bed and rubbed my eyes. For a moment, I thought I was still dreaming. The skyline outside looked nothing like the one I remembered. Massive glass towers stretched into the clouds. Small flying vehicles drifted between buildings like birds. Giant holographic displays floated in the air, showing news, weather, and information. I blinked several times. "What the hell?" The last thing I remembered was falling asleep in my apartment after another exhausting day in 2026. But this definitely wasn't 2026. I stumbled out of bed and found a digital calendar glowing on the wall. June 3, 2050. I laughed. Then I checked again. Still 2050. My heart started racing. There had to be some explanation. A prank. A simulation. Anything. I rushed outside hoping someone could tell me what was going on. The streets were full of people, but nobody seemed stressed. Nobody looked rushed. Nobody was glued to a phone screen. People simply walked. Talking. Smiling. Living. It felt strangely unfamiliar. I stopped at a small café on the corner. The place looked modern, but cozy. A robot prepared drinks behind the counter while customers chatted nearby. "Can I get a coffee?" I asked. Within seconds, a steaming cup appeared in front of me. "Thanks," I said. "How much do I owe you?" The robot tilted its head. Several people nearby looked at me. "Owe?" the robot asked. "The coffee. How much?" A woman sitting near the window laughed softly. "You must be joking." "I'm not." She stared at me for a second before answering. "We don't use money anymore." I almost dropped the cup. "What do you mean you don't use money?" She motioned for me to sit down. Then she told me a story that sounded impossible. Apparently, sometime during the 2030s, artificial intelligence became advanced enough to manage nearly everything. Factories became fully automated. Food production became almost unlimited. Energy became incredibly cheap. Robots handled construction, transportation, manufacturing, and most jobs people used to spend their lives doing. As technology improved, basic necessities became abundant. Eventually, governments around the world abandoned traditional economic systems. Money slowly disappeared. Everyone received housing. Food. Healthcare. Education. Everything they needed. For free. At first, I thought she was joking. But as the days passed, I realized she wasn't. Nobody worried about paying rent. Nobody worked multiple jobs just to survive. Nobody feared losing healthcare. The future looked like humanity had finally solved its biggest problems. And honestly? Part of me loved it. Who wouldn't? Imagine waking up every day knowing you don't have bills to pay. Imagine pursuing your passions without worrying about survival. For a while, it felt like paradise. But after a few weeks, I started noticing things that nobody else seemed concerned about. The cameras. They were everywhere. Tiny drones floated silently above the streets. Sensors were built into walls, sidewalks, even park benches. Everywhere I went, something was watching. One afternoon, I asked a local man about privacy. He looked genuinely confused. "Privacy from who?" he asked. "The system. The AI." He shrugged. "The AI keeps us safe." That answer bothered me more than it should have. Because nobody questioned it. Not once. And that's when I started wondering if this perfect world was hiding something far less perfect underneath. I had no idea how right I was. A month later, I discovered a secret that would completely change everything I thought I knew—not just about 2050, but about myself. And once I learned the truth, I realized there was something far more dangerous than artificial intelligence. It was a world where nobody wanted to question it.
