I Thought Writing Online Was Just a Hobby… Until I Tried This
You might be surprised—just like I was.
I used to think writing online was just something people did for fun.
You write your thoughts, post them somewhere, maybe a few people read… and that’s it.
Nothing serious.
Nothing that could actually turn into something.
At least, that’s what I believed.
When I first heard that people were earning from writing online, I didn’t take it seriously.
It sounded like one of those things you hear on the internet and ignore.
“Make money from your phone.”
“Earn from your words.”
It always sounded too easy.
But at some point, curiosity got the better of me.
I thought, what if I just try it for myself?
Not with big expectations.
Just to see.
So I signed up on Vocal Media.
At that point, I wasn’t thinking about money.
I just wanted a place to write.
A place where my thoughts wouldn’t just stay in my head or my notes app.
My first few days were… confusing.
I won’t lie.
I didn’t fully understand how everything worked.
I kept asking myself:
“Do people actually read here?”
“How do writers even get noticed?”
“Is this worth my time?”
And to make it worse—my first article got rejected.
That part almost made me stop completely.
Because when you’re just starting, rejection feels personal.
It makes you question yourself.
But something told me not to quit yet.
So instead of giving up, I started paying attention.
I read other people’s stories.
I noticed something interesting.
The posts that were doing well were not the most “perfect.”
They were the most real.
People were writing about:
- relationships
- motherhood
- personal struggles
- growth
Not in a formal way.
Not like an article.
But like a conversation.
That’s when I realized something important.
This was not just about writing.
It was about connection.
So I changed my approach.
I stopped trying to sound like I knew everything.
And started writing about what I actually feel.
Not perfectly.
Not professionally.
Just honestly.
Things like:
- feeling overwhelmed sometimes
- missing who I used to be
- trying to grow while figuring life out
And slowly, things started changing.
I began to see small signs.
A few reads.
A few reactions.
A little engagement.
Nothing big.
But enough to show me that people were actually seeing my words.
And that’s when it started to feel real.
Not because I had made money yet.
But because I had started something.
Now, I understand that earning from writing doesn’t happen instantly.
It builds.
Every article you write becomes something that exists.
Something people can find.
Something that can grow over time.
And that changed how I see writing completely.
It’s no longer just something I do randomly.
It’s something I’m building.
I’m still at the beginning of this journey.
Still learning.
Still figuring things out.
But I’m glad I started.
Because now I know this:
It’s possible.
Not easy.
Not instant.
But possible.
And sometimes, that’s all you need to keep going.
If you’ve ever thought about writing online, maybe don’t overthink it too much.
Just start.
See where it takes you.
You might be surprised—just like I was.
