“I Found a Hidden Letter Inside My New Apartment”

While cleaning out a cabinet in my new apartment, I found an envelope tucked behind the drawer. It was yellowed with age, sealed with red wax, and addressed simply: “To the next tenant.”

I opened it.

If you’re reading this, please listen. There’s something in the walls. It only comes out when the lights go out. You’ll hear scratching at first. Then the humming. Don’t follow the humming.

I laughed. Thought it was some creepy joke.

Until the third night.

Scratching.

Humming.

My lights flickered, then died.

I sat in silence, listening as something crept behind the drywall.

I didn’t sleep that night. I haven’t slept much since.

Whoever wrote that letter wasn’t joking.
