I'm pretty sure we're all familiar with the "eat the frog" productivity hack these days. It works, provided you actually do it.
Which is the thing about any of those productivity type things. If you do it, then it works. The problem is that I don't do them. Or not for long anyway.
If I had the discipline to do the productivity hack, I would have the disciple to just do whatever it was that needed doing that I needed the hack for in the first place.
I'm a lifelong procrastinator and I wish I wasn't. But I need a deadline to make me do anything.
When I don't have a deadline I will sit there, flipping between tasks, inventing pointless new tasks, distracting myself with anything besides that work I should be doing. Even if there is a deadline, if it's not close enough, I still won't do the work.
I wish I could do it. But in that moment, I would rather stick hot pokers in my eyeballs that do it.
I make bargains with myself. I can take the next hour/day/week off to do anything I want at all, but then I have to lock in and get the work done.
It never works. I give myself the time off, and then when it's time to get to work I just... don't.
I don't need another productivity hack, I need a way to make me do things without a deadline chasing me down. There's so much I want to do. But apparently, I don't want anything more than I want to lie around on the couch wasting time waiting for a deadline.
