Fantastically Niche Literary Journals
Open to submission
As I’ve been diving deeper into the online literary journal world, I often come across interesting websites that are seeking niche authors, genres, or topics.
I wanted to share some of the most interesting journals I’ve stumbled upon in the past few months. Good luck to everyone who submits!
Poetry
Apogee Journal: Seeks political work written by diverse voices. They are actively seeking work in conversation with Palestine solidarity ❤.
Persimmon Tree: A gorgeous online magazine seeking work from women over the age of 60. They also accept fiction and nonfiction.
Bipolar Poetry: Open to anyone who is diagnosed with bipolar disorder. It is free to submit, but they do not offer pay at this time.
Magic Dragon: Open to children under the age of thirteen. They also accept fiction and original art.
Torch Literary Arts: Open to Black Women. They accept most genres and are open to queries for nonfiction. They also feature a weekly paid contest. Winners receive $150!
Fiction / Flash
One Story-Teen Contest: Writers aged 13–19 may submit to the contest for free. Winners are paid $500!
Thin Skin: A magazine that only publishes work from people over the age of fifty. They open to submissions on August 1st.
Midnight & Indigo: A fabulous lit mag seeing work from Black women writers. They are a paid market and they are currently looking for speculative fiction.
Literary Mama: Open to all mothers (trans and queer inclusive ❤).
Tint Journal: Accepts work from writers who are English as a Second Language learners. If English is your second, third, or fourth language, feel free to submit!
Consequence Forum: They seek writing from veterans and anyone impacted by the horrors of war and political crimes. They are a paying market!
It is a blessing that there are so many diverse literary magazines out there. I think it makes our literary landscape a richer and more impactful place.
