There's nothing that matches a good couch nap. With a pillow and a blanket in the afternoon sun.
You lie down to read for a while and before you know it your eyelids are heavy and drooping. The book in your hand starts to pitch forwards and before you know it, it's resting on your chest, maybe a thumb or finger is keeping your place for now.
You dream softly. Maybe you visit the world of the book you were reading, or perhaps is something more mundane, but the transition from awake to sleep happens so gently that you don't even realise that you've drifted off.
The wake up is equally easy. Your spouse walks through the room or a car drives past outside and the noises gradually bring you back to consciousness.
You stay still, enjoying the warmth and cosiness, maybe drifting back into a half-doze. You might have been asleep for fifteen minutes or for half an hour, either way you feel like you've emerged from a brief sojourn from other worlds and you're almost resentful of the real world for bring you back.
