Blank Page

My kryptonite as a writer

Pale, blue lines on crisp, white paper

this is where my nightmares always begin.

A beam of light ricochets off

the blank surface glaring up at me.

I blink, then blink harder,

but my eyes still sting from its mockery.

My pencil once poised for impact

now appears frozen, in shock

as if its lost all reason for being.

My eyes are in no better a state

for they can only shift and bounce

off the page and around the room

completely ignorant to the ghosts

that haunt my mind. Stories once

full of life and rich with color,

all froze to death the moment I

laid my eyes upon

the tundra

of an empty page.
