Best Friend Relationships Can Be Difficult At Times
Some stories and a few rhymes

Creating a healthy relationship with yourself and others leads to a fulfilling life. These prompts are an invitation to step inside yourself. Take a deep breath. Shuffle the deck. Pull a card. Write your heart out. Rupi Kaur
My hubby and I are in the photo above. Yes it was warm. Not like it is out this morning. -15 below. We have been together for 24 years this year. We continue to enjoy riding motorcycle together. We aren't in any riding groups. Just me and my best friend.
We were married in December of 2004, making it 20 years on December 23rd. John is hubby number three. I call him the charm. He has other names as well.
We are both in recovery from drugs and alcohol. No using either for 34 and 44 years. We are both family people. Together we have seven children. Then there is all the grandchildren and great grandchildren. We have had a fulfilling life. I love my best friend and don't want to live with anyone else.
I just told him that I loved him and didn't want to live with anyone else yesterday. That is my truth. I hurt his feelings when I said prior to the election, "I don't know what I am doing with you!" in a disagreement we had over politics.
He hopped right in to defend himself and the fight was on. Best friends and married people do not get along 100% of the time. It is what happens after the words that can't be taken back are spoken that is important. For me, it is talking about it with a trusted person. Not my daughter or close family.
Really! I don't want to encourage side taking. I want to look at my part. My part has gotten me to seek professional assistance. I have a session today. More about that later.
He is fine with working his program. He said he is looking at his side too. And he knows he will defend himself when feeling attacked and some of that is old behavior. He said the same thing to me. He loves me and doesn't want to live with anyone else.
That is a good starting point for both of us. I need to remember that recovery takes work and only death is the finish line.

What topics are important for you and your best friends to agree on? Rupi Kaur
We don't and won't agree on everything. I know that and so does he.
We work a recovery program and recovery is so important that we
won't live together without that. He can be such a brat
and that isn't enough to cause rifts. We take time and sift
through it and figure it out. I ask myself how important is it
If it is worth my serenity. Sometimes it is worth it and oh shit
when it is important to me, I have to take it on, hmm.
It is usually me that goes there. Not him.
We do agree on motorcycles. We both ride Yamaha's now. Him on a 1900 stratoliner. When I first bought a bike in my late teens it was a BSA (British bike). Then when my baby turned 21, it was time to buy a bike again.
I thought it may be a Harley. My friend at the time said, you won't ride with me, because I like to ride, I don't like to fix. That was true at the time. Those were the bikes that I saw broke down, getting new motors and other work done.
I have had a Suzuki, a Yamaha Volusia and now this 1300 V-star and they last forever. No trouble at all. I thought perhaps this would be my last year, but not yet! We will see how it goes from year to year. I didn't ride as much as usual, but I still got enough miles to keep riding.
I know I can trust a person when _________________________. Rupi Kaur
I trust a person that is working an honesty program.
I trust a person that I have known a long time.
I trust a person that tells me the truth, like my gram.
I trust a person, and I will call BS if it doesn't chime
Describe the last time you were vulnerable with a partner. Rupi Kaur
I am always vulnerable with my partner. He knows everything about me.
He can see me fully. He knows me, maybe better than me, and can see
the true me, even when I am attempting to hide something,
like the time I received a ring from a friend of my daughter, it was bling
and I enjoyed it more than my wedding ring. Being without it now is tough
and difficult for me. He knows this. Earrings are being made and it's rough.
It seems petty that I feel naked without it. Maybe a few will get it - enough!
