Yanfeng Automotive Interiors Systems recently began pile foundation construction at its new Anting base, marking a significant milestone in the company's transformation strategy. With a total investment of 1.45 billion yuan, the facility integrates smart cockpit R&D and production, aiming to inject fresh momentum into Jiading's ambition to become a core hub for the world-class automotive industry.

A Flagship Project for Jiading

Situated west of the Gupu River and south of Minfeng Road in Anting, the site covers approximately 190,000 square meters. Plans call for five structures with a combined above-ground floor area of about 200,000 square meters, including three smart factories, a four-story parking garage, and supporting facilities. In total, nearly 4,000 piles will be driven to support the development.

As a flagship industrial project for Jiading this year, the new base will provide nearby support for mainstream OEMs, including SAIC Volkswagen, SAIC Audi, SAIC Motor, BYD, Li Auto, and Volvo. By leveraging Yanfeng's global technical experts and international branches, the facility adheres to a green, low-carbon, and circular development path, offering automakers comprehensive cockpit solutions from design to mass production.

Timeline and Construction Progress

The construction contract spans 555 days. Pile foundation work is slated for completion between late September and early October, while the main structures are expected to top out in June 2027. The entire project is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2028.

The scale and pace of the project underscore the urgency behind Yanfeng's strategy. As the smart cockpit becomes an increasingly critical differentiator in the automotive market, suppliers like Yanfeng are racing to build the capacity to deliver integrated solutions that go beyond traditional interiors.

The Strategic Significance

For Yanfeng, the new Anting base represents more than just additional production capacity. It's a statement of intent. The facility is designed to position the company as a comprehensive technology partner for automakers, capable of delivering full smart cockpit solutions from initial design to mass production.

The choice of Anting is no accident. Located in the heart of Shanghai's automotive hub, the site offers proximity to key customers, access to a deep talent pool, and integration into one of China's most dynamic automotive ecosystems. The base will collaborate with Yanfeng's global technical experts and international branches, ensuring that the facility benefits from the best of the company's worldwide expertise.

The Smart Cockpit Battlefield

The investment comes as the smart cockpit becomes a new battleground for automotive competition. Automakers are increasingly looking for suppliers who can deliver integrated, technology-rich interior solutions that enhance the user experience and differentiate their vehicles in a crowded market.

Yanfeng's new facility is designed to meet that demand. By combining R&D and production in a single location, the company aims to accelerate the development and delivery of smart cockpit solutions, reducing lead times and improving responsiveness to customer needs.

A Green and Circular Future

The facility follows a green, low-carbon, and circular development path, reflecting Yanfeng's commitment to sustainability. The company is integrating environmental considerations into every aspect of the project, from design and construction to operations and production.

This focus on sustainability is not just a regulatory requirement; it's a competitive advantage. As automakers increasingly prioritize sustainability in their supply chains, suppliers who can demonstrate a commitment to environmental responsibility will be better positioned to win business.

The new Anting base is part of a broader trend in the automotive industry: the transformation of suppliers from traditional parts manufacturers into comprehensive technology partners. As vehicles become more connected, autonomous, and electric, the lines between interior, electronics, and software are blurring. Suppliers who can bridge these domains and deliver integrated solutions will be the winners in the next phase of the industry's evolution.

For Yanfeng, the Anting base is a crucial step in that journey. With its focus on smart cockpit R&D and production, the facility positions the company to capture a larger share of the value chain and play a more strategic role in the vehicles of the future.

The circus of the automotive industry is always evolving. For Yanfeng, the new Anting base is a bet on a future where the cockpit is not just a space; it's an experience.
