Yamaha R15 V3: "Best Flying Tool"

Test and Review

First, it is self-introduction. This is the third generation R15, so it is the nickname of "R15 V3". It is definitely a beautiful bicycle, its shape is derived from YZF-R6, and YZF-R6 is derived from YZF-R1.

Introduction

The 155cc water-cooled SOHC single-cylinder engine has Yamaha's VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) function. At 155cc, it may have been adopted by NVX/Aerox scooters. The R15 engine is only 155cc and can produce 19 bhp at 10,0000 RPM and 14.7 Nm of torque at 8,500 RPM. Of course, the 19-horsepower engine does not seem to be much, but judging from the 155cc horsepower, it is still good.

Its suspension includes a golden inverted front fork and a rear shock absorber. The fork and Monoshock are not adjustable. However, we noticed that the impact force is applied through a set of ascent rate links, rather than directly mounted on the rear rocker arm. The framework is the updated Deltabox.

It has LED lights and turn signals. On the side of the double-headed lamp is a large (fake) air scoop. The windshield is as big as the R25. In addition, the instrument display is a complete LCD display.

Driving experience

The front of the R15 feels heavy, but this is because we did not lower the upper body, which caused us to push down onto the handlebars. At that time, I felt that the steering damper was adjusted too tightly. But once we lowered the torso and relaxed the arms, it disappeared. Bicycles are now very agile.

However, the bicycle becomes very stable when driving at speeds higher than 90 km/h on the highway. Even if it encounters a strong crosswind, it will not shift due to the carefully designed aerodynamic characteristics.

The engine rotates slowly below 5,000 RPM. Before removing the clutch for offline charging, you need to keep the engine RPM at 2,000 RPM. However, when the VVA is activated at 7,500 RPM, the bicycle is pre-charged (there is an indicator in the instrument cluster). The engine also stabilized from 8,000 RPM.

The lightness of the R15 is that in addition to the non-slip clutch and sporty riding position, its real fun lies in the corners.

Clutch slip means that even if you leave the throttle, you can bring more rolling speed into the corner. On the contrary, too much anti-torque will slow down your speed. On R15, you will fill the corners with a higher gear than usual.

The lower handlebar allows you to hang down comfortably while charging in the corner. Move your body inward so that the fuel tank supports your upper arm.

In fact, we traverse the curve at a speed of 30 to 40 km/h faster than usual. When you are riding a bicycle, the R15's lightness and fast turning characteristics can inspire your confidence. It can keep the selected row, even if the foot pin is triggered, the row can be modified.

The suspension helps to achieve this kind of riding. We have tested all Yamaha road bikes (except R1 and R6), but the R15 suspension is best calibrated. When the bicycle is light, you may get a heavy blow because the bicycle is light, but the faster you ride, the suspension will be well cushioned. There is no fluctuation in speed.

Another measure of suspension is that the bicycle will encounter wet ground and stagnant water when leaning on a curve. Normal tires feel a bit slippery on other bikes, but they feel perfect on the R15. We can only imagine the performance of this bike with better tires.

Yes, we know that opponents say that the riding position of Yamaha YZF-R15 is uncomfortable, but this is only because you need to understand the correct technique. We did not criticize what the rider must learn.

Secondly, we know that some people will say that it is slow because it is only 155cc. Yes, we admit that it takes time to increase the speed (this is not a 1000cc bike, so come on!), but we were completely surprised by the maximum speed achieved. How fast? The speed is 150 km/h (at the 12,000 RPM red line) on flat roads, and close to 160 km/h when driving on slopes. slow? not really!

Finally, even if we fully charge the throttle when idling, even if we always drive at 110 to 130 km/h, the engine is still very fuel efficient. We average 310 kilometers per 11 liters, and we only fuel our bikes once a week! The computer displays 2.6l/100km, which is equivalent to 38.5km/l.

In conclusion

The Yamaha YZF-R15 has indeed brought us infinite surprises because it has proven its function. This is definitely the best 150cc sports motorcycle on the market.

First of all, it makes sense to buy a windshield for your motorcycle. The main criterion is that the windshield should not distort the view, even if it seems that you are not looking through it anyway, believe me, if the windshield of your motorcycle distorts the real view, this fact will be a great distraction. Driving for a long time without such a device is imprudent and dangerous, especially since the motor market offers a wide range of these products. There are hundreds of suitable options for each type of bike. Here https://www.motorcyclescreens.eu/en/27-motorcycle-windshields-for-yamaha you can always choose the best one for yourself
