Mercedes Benz makes six distinct SUV lines with subcategories in some of those. In this article, we're going to go through each one of them and help you decide which one is right. But first of all, A little bit of history. Mercedes Benz started back in the 1970s with the original cross-country SUV, the Gelandewagen. That translates to a cross-country vehicle. That is where the G comes from in all of our SUV models. Whether it's the GLA up to our largest vehicle, the GLS. The G again signifies the cross-country SUV size vehicle. The question we get all the time is, "What's the difference between the numbers and the letters?" In Mercedes Benz, the letters signify the vehicle model, whereas the number signifies the engine in that particular vehicle. When people come into the showroom and are interested in an SUV, normally one of the main things they're asking about is practicality. Throughout this article, we are going to help you figure out which one of the many vehicles Mercedes-Benz has is the perfect fit for you. Also, in case you live outside of the US and want to buy the cheapest car in USA, make sure to check Monster Exports.

GLA 250

Let's start with the GLA 250. This is the most compact SUV/cross-over vehicle, and it's also Mercedes Benz most economical, both in terms of financially starting at around $36,000 for the two-wheel-drive model, you're in the high 30s to low 40s for the four-wheel-drive model, and as well as the most fuel-efficient, with 31 MPG on the highway. Practicality, vehicle seats five. With the seat up in the back, you have 17 cubic feet of cargo space. With the seats down, you have 43 cubic feet of cargo space.

GLB250 and GLB 254 Matic

Brand new for 2020, is the Mercedes Benz GLB250 and GLB 254 Matic. This is a really exciting new car, and we're going to compare it to the GLC, as the two cars are very closely matched.

What's exciting about the GLB 250? To begin with, it is the most affordable and smallest footprint car Mercedes Benz makes to seat seven passengers. A third row is an option. This particular car that you're looking at does have the AMG exterior styling package, which makes it very sporty looking. The 2020 Mercedes Benz GLB 250 and GLB 254 Matic are among the most practical vehicles in the entire Mercedes Benz line. This vehicle still returns 30 miles per gallon on the highway, yet, with the seats up, you have an impressive 20 cubic feet of cargo space and with the seats down a massive 62 cubic feet of cargo space. In this car, Optional is the third row of seats that are rated to have car seats installed.

GLC 304 Matic

Mercedes Benz GLC 304 Matic. It is Mercedes Benz's most popular vehicle and for a good reason. It comes in many different variants that let you pick the car that perfectly suits your needs. It's built on the C-Class platform, our most popular Sudan. The Mercedes Benz GLC 300 can return up to 29 miles per gallons on the highway, which still makes it incredibly fuel-efficient for a vehicle that's this practical. The GLC 300 comes in many different variants, and that's part of what makes it so appealing to people because you can pick the one that fits your needs the best. To begin with, you start with the GLC 300. Which is a two-wheel-drive model? Moving on up, you get to the GLC 304 Matic, which is an all-wheel drive. From there, you go to the GLC 350 E, Mercedes Benz, only plug-in hybrid at the moment, which has a pure electric option, really great for super fuel-efficient use if you live in an urban environment. From there, you move into the AMG line, with the GLC 43 with a twin-turbo V6. And if you want the top of the line, there is the GLC 63 with a twin-turbo V8.

How can we decide between the GLB and the GLC?

One the GLB, there is the option to have a third row of seating, which is certified to have car seats in that back row. On the GLC, there is no third-row available, which means it seats five people.

Some other differences:

The GLB has a boxier shape; thus, the cargo area is slightly larger than it is on the GLC. If ultimate cargo capacity is what you're interested in, then we're going to wanna work on the GLB.

A few other differences:

If you're looking for the ultimate luxury, the GLC is definitely going to be a slight step up in terms of road noise. There is more sound bending in the GLC than the GLB. We're still talking about a Mercedes Benz here, so either way, you go, it's always going to be luxurious. For some people towing is very important. The GLB does not have a tow package available. With the GLC, you can order the vehicle with a class two tow hitch that will allow the vehicle to tow up to 35,00 pounds.

Benz GLC 43 Coupe

Mercedes Benz GLC 43 Coupe. It's built on the same platform as the GLC SUV, and the main difference is the styling in the back. This is going to give you a sportier, more aggressive appearance, but with slightly less cargo space. This car does not come in a two-wheel-drive variant. It begins with the GLC 300 Coupe, you then go to the GLC 43, like this vehicle. You can also get a GLC 63 Coupe, and then unlike the GLC SUV, there is the option for the GLC 63 S Coupe for the ultimate speed in the GLC platform.

GLE 450 with the twin-turbo V6.

For 2020, Mercedes Benz has completely redesigned the GLE line. This particular car is the GLE 450 with the twin-turbo V6. There are two other variants, the GLE 350 with the twin-turbo four-cylinder engine and the top of the range GLE 580 with a twin-turbo V8. One of the big differences between the GLC and the GLE is that the GLE is capable of towing up to 77,00 pounds, as opposed to 35,00 pounds on the GLC. The car comes standard with seating for five, but you can get an optional third row of seating, which adds two seats. In terms of practicality, with the seats up, you have 33 cubic feet of cargo space in the back, with the seats down, you're at 75 cubic feet.

2020 Mercedes Benz GLS

The 2020 Mercedes Benz GLS is our largest SUV and sets the standard in luxury for Mercedes Benz and the class. This particular car is the Mercedes Benz GLS 450 with a twin-turbo six-cylinder engine. Also available is the GLS 580 with a twin-turbo 8 cylinder engine. Like the GLE, it is also rated to tow 77,00 pounds. The GLS does come standard with seating for seven, with a bench seat as the second row. Optional is to do captains chairs in the second row, which gives you a little more luxurious feeling in that second row but limits you to seating for six in the vehicle instead of seven. If you're trying to decide between the GLE and the GLS, one of the big differences is how much space there is in that third row. The third row in the GLE is great for kids and even for short trips with adults in that back row. However, if you're planning on having adults in the third row for extended periods of time, I would recommend the GLS. In terms of cargo space, the GLS series has the most in the entire Mercedes Benz range. With all three rows up, there are 17 cubic feet of cargo space in the back. Put the third row down, that number jumps to 42 cubic feet with both the second and third rows down; you have a massive 84 cubic feet of cargo space.

Mercedes Benz G-Wagen

And now we arrive at the very best, the Mercedes Benz G-Wagen. Originally developed in the 1970s as a military vehicle, it was quickly adopted as the ultimate luxury off-road SUV that can truly go anywhere. This particular car is a G63, which is the AMG variant. It also comes in the entry-level G 550. The car is surprisingly practical. With the boxy shape, you can put quite a bit in there. With the seats in the up position, you have 38 cubic feet of space in the back, and with the seats down, you have 68 cubic feet. The truck is rated to tow 7,000 pounds. One unique feature of the G-Wagen is that it is the only production vehicle for sale in the United States with three locking differentials; front, rear, and center.

How to pick between all these amazing vehicles?

Well, if you're looking for the most compact vehicle that's the most fuel-efficient, you definitely are going to be wanting to look at the GLA 250. Moving on, if you're looking for the ultimate in practicality and affordability, we would definitely say let's look at the GLB 250 Formatic. It's brand new, the tech in it is amazing, and it definitely deserves a closer look. For the ultimate all-arounder, we're definitely going to have to talk about the GLC. To be able to get the towing and the luxury combined, it really hits a sweet spot that really works for so many people. If you're looking for that bigger vehicle, you need to carry a lot of stuff. Maybe you need to tow quite a bit; the GLE is where you want to be looking. If you just need the biggest and the best, then you're definitely at the GLS. Coming standard with seating for seven optional with those super-luxurious second-row captains chairs seating for six, massive 84 cubic feet of cargo space and towing of 77,00 pounds, it is the biggest and the best. And if you want that super-niche vehicle, the vehicle that can go anywhere and turn heads anywhere, whether you're on Michigan Avenue or out in the wilderness, then that's the G-Wagen.

We hope we could answer your question about the best Mercedez-Benz SUV, also if you want to buy a one and also live outside the USA and want car export services, make sure to check Monster Exports.
