The tyre is the most essential part of your vehicle as it is the only part that remains in contact with the road surface. Because of this tyres are susceptible to gradual wear and tear with time. You can’t identify the lifespan of a tyre because it depends upon several factors.

These factors might imply that it is time to replace the tyre. In the market, you have a myriad of options like summer, winter, all-season and performance tyres. Similarly, brands like Michelin Tyres, Pirelli Tyres and Continental AG offer the most unique features to benefit from.

However, there are several signs and factors you have to keep in mind.

Here are some common signs that indicate you need to change your tyre:

Tyre age

Studies show that car tyres need a replacement every five years as they lose their rigidity. The manufacturing date is mentioned on the sidewall of your tyre. It also depends on the usage of your vehicle.

Climate conditions

The efficiency of your car’s tyre is affected by the environment around it. Different climatic conditions have a different requirement. Types of tyres available for different weather conditions are summer tyre, winter tyre, and all season’s tyre. You can differentiate them from each other by the rubber compound and the tread pattern they have. Winter tyres have a soft rubber compound while summer tyres are made for optimal performance in warm weather conditions. All season tyres are ideal for both weather conditions.

Wheel alignment

Misalignment leads to uneven wear of tyres. The uneven wear of tyres happens due to driving in areas that have unpleasant road conditions. Tyres that have cuts and bulges have deficient tread material that makes them prone to get punctured. Regular inspection of your tyre alignment can be done by checking whether your car is able to move in a straight line or not. This reduces the uneven tyre wear.

Tyre grip

You know it’s time to change your tyre when it is not offering you the grip while driving as it used to give. Uneven wear and tear disturb your grip and handling. Moreover, it also reduces the stopping potential of the vehicle.

Damaged sidewall

The outermost wall of the tyre is known as the sidewall. Poor road conditions and potholes on the surface can destroy the sidewall of your tyre. This results in the development of certain cracks and bulges that can be noticed visually. Repair shops can fix these issues using wall patches but this is not a dependable solution for this problem. The best way to fix this problem is to get your tyre replaced.

Tread depth

The tyres that appear to be worn out physically are most likely to be changed. These days tyres come with a wear indicator that shows that your tyre needs to be changed. Even tread depth throughout the tyre implies that your tyre is in perfect condition.

However, if it’s not even then it indicates that you must get your tyre changed and also get the alignment fixed. Moreover, make sure your tyre tread depth must not go below 1.6mm; you're not allowed to use your vehicles if it’s below this range.
