Volkswagen revels details of the all new third generation Tiguan

Volkswagen is unveiling details about the upcoming third generation of its popular Tiguan model, as part of its final test drives. The new Tiguan will feature a state-of-the-art active suspension control system and full-size features such as HD Matrix headlights. It will be built on the latest modular transverse matrix platform, known as MQB evo. Additionally, the Tiguan will be available with a plug-in hybrid drivetrain, allowing for electric ranges of up to 100 kilometers in the future. The world premiere of the new Tiguan is scheduled for autumn, with the market launch planned for 2024.

The Tiguan has consistently been Volkswagen's top-selling model worldwide for many years, with over 7.4 million units sold since its introduction in 2007. Now, Volkswagen is introducing a complete redesign of this successful SUV.

For the new Tiguan, Volkswagen has made significant advancements to the modular transverse matrix platform, now referred to as MQB evo. According to Kai Grünitz, Member of the Brand Board of Management responsible for Technical Development, the MQB evo incorporates cutting-edge technology components. This includes a new generation of plug-in hybrid drives with impressive electric ranges, exceptional active chassis control, premium interior quality, and an intuitive infotainment system that meets drivers' expectations.

Some notable features of the new Tiguan include optional IQ.LIGHT HD matrix headlights, making it one of the first vehicles in its class to offer this technology. Developed in collaboration with the Touareg, this premium lighting system will now be available in the mid-sized Tiguan.

The interior of the Tiguan has undergone a revamp, taking into account specific customer requirements for intuitive operation. It now includes a newly developed cockpit and infotainment system. The large display, measuring up to 15 inches, clearly presents essential functions like navigation, music, and climate control, which can be customized for quick access. The center console incorporates the Driving Experience Control and a rotary control with its own mini-screen, enabling the control of drive mode, radio volume, and ambient lighting colors. The Tiguan's interior also features high-quality materials, newly designed seats, and effective noise insulation to enhance comfort and value. Additionally, an optional "acoustic package" further improves noise comfort, providing a premium-class experience. Furthermore, the center consoles offer increased storage space.

In terms of transmission, the Tiguan will be exclusively offered with an automated shift gearbox (DSG). Similar to Volkswagen's ID. models, the gear position can now be changed using a steering column switch on the right side of the steering wheel, employing an intuitive operating principle. Turning the switch forwards engages "D" for driving forward, while turning it backward activates "R" for reverse. Pressing the side of the switch activates the parking brake. Paddle shifters are also available behind the steering wheel.

To enhance both comfort and dynamics, the Tiguan utilizes the MQB evo platform as the foundation for the new generation of adaptive suspension control called DCC (Dynamic Chassis Control). The optional DCC Pro includes two-valve shock absorbers. The vehicle is also equipped with a standard vehicle dynamics manager, previously introduced in the current Golf GTI2, which controls the electronic differential locks (XDS) and the lateral dynamics components of the controlled shock absorbers in the DCC Pro system. This integration allows for neutral, stable, agile, and precise handling. Passengers will experience increased comfort and significantly improved performance during dynamic cornering.

The Tiguan will offer a variety of drivetrain options, thanks to the MQB evo platform's flexibility. Customers can choose from turbodiesel engines (TDI), turbocharged petrol engines (TSI), mild hybrid turbocharged petrol engines (eTSI), and plug-in hybrid systems (eHybrid). Compared to previous models, the new plug-in hybrid drivetrains have increased electric ranges of up to 100 kilometers, depending on the chosen equipment. Furthermore, AC charging will be faster across all eHybrid versions, and DC charging will be available as standard for the first time.

For enhanced comfort, the Tiguan will offer optional ergoActive front seats. These premium-class seats include features like pneumatic four-way lumbar support adjustment, a pneumatic 10-chamber pressure point massage function in the backrests, seat heating, and ventilation.

Despite a minor increase in length, the new Tiguan retains similar height, width, and wheelbase dimensions to its predecessor. However, the use of space has been optimized, resulting in a larger luggage compartment. The new generation Tiguan offers a capacity of 648 liters (33 liters more than before) when loaded up to the height of the rear seat backrests, showcasing its impressive cargo space utilization.
