The feeling you get when you get your license is like no other. You feel like the king/queen of the world. You are eager to go get your hands on your first car, but wait there are so many options.

Fear, not my friend!!

I am going to help you prepare for your first car and give you the best option.

It's hard to imagine life without a car. Not including the ones who stay downtown and everything is within a walking distance. Car is a necessity today and not a privilege like it was a few years ago.

Cars range from a few thousand dollars to millions. Not everyone is as privileged to waste a ton of money on cars. Hence it makes sense to go with a used car. Not all used cars are equal. Service history and an in-depth test from a good mechanic are important.

Things to consider before buying a car -

Your budget - It's not the cost of the car; rather the insurance, maintenance, and fuel will cost you a lot in long run. You need to assess your finances, budget, and then decide if you can afford a new car or get a good used car.

Parking - Do you have an available parking space or do you have to rent a space to park. It's going to hit your budget if you have to rent a spot.

Need - Do you need a car or can you get by using a bike. If you live close to downtown and everything is close to you. Save money and don't buy a car. Instead, use public transport or bike.

Things to look out for in a car -

Reliability of car - You don't have a ton of money to spend on repairs when buying your first car. Your first car should start every time you turn the key and carry you from point a to b without giving you much trouble. Japanese carmakers have proved to create the most reliable cars in the market. So you are better off with a Japanese car for your first car.

Cost of the car- Connecting to the above point, you don't have to spend a lot of money on your first car. You are still getting used to driving and bound to make some mistakes. It's better to make those mistakes on a budget car than an expensive one. Note that a repair bill can drain your bank account significantly.

After-market parts - You are going to need aftermarket parts. Even the most reliable car will need a few parts replaced in its lifetime. As parts from authorized dealers cost a lot. Having a good availability and affordability is good for your wallet and your car.

A good first car adds a ton of good memories and does not spend all the time in a repair shop.

So which car do I suggest for your first car?

Lexus ES330

Lexus is well known for its reliability and luxury.

ES330 is an excellent used car at just $5000(USD). It is reliable, affordable, spacious, and luxurious.

It's built on the same platform as Toyota Camry and Avalon. However, you are getting a lot of luxury. Leather seats, both heated and cooled. Everything you touch feels smooth and plush.

This may not be a burnout machine and you don't need one as your first car. ES330 comes with a six-cylinder engine and puts out 225 horsepower. Has a huge interior and trunk space for those long family trips.

ES330 was available from 2002 to 2006. This was the fourth generation for ES. Wood treatment on the interior is gorgeous and unique to each car.

Save your money and get an ES330 or if you have the budget, get the next generation that is ES350.

Is this the only car available for you?

No.

However, this is the best option for one who is looking for a reliable, luxurious car at an affordable price. This car has outlived many other expensive cars.
