Relief from SHOULDER Pain

“After three weeks of doing my exercises, my shoulder pain went away, and I was able to move my arm again. I no longer needed Rotator Cuff surgery!” Chris — NJ

Proper Treatment Must Start with a Precise Diagnosis.

VPT’s corner stone is our advanced evaluation. Rather than relying on a general diagnosis, every patient receives a Mechanical Assessment to uncover the root cause of symptoms. All our physical therapists are Certified in Mechanical Diagnosis to assure that every patient receives the highest level of care.

Causes of Shoulder Pain:

1. Neck

2. Upper thoracic spine

3. Joint derangement — cartilage

4. Joint dysfunction — tight tissue

5. Inflammatory

6. Fracture

7. Other: non-mechanical

in What to Expect on your Initial Virtual Visit for Shoulder Pain.

Over 40% of shoulder symptoms are referred from the neck. Every VPT evaluation starts with ruling out the spine to assure that your symptoms are not incorrectly blamed on the location where symptoms are felt. Your clinician will start by reviewing your past medical history and then ask questions about your symptoms, including what aggravates and relieves. A mechanical assessment will be performed and this includes assessing your baseline range of motion and quality of movement along with any pain and limitations. Spinal movements will be assessed to see if they have any effect of your baseline symptoms. Next your clinician will perform repeated movements of the affect joint and analyze any affect that these moments have on your baseline symptoms. This thorough assessment will reveal any mechanical problems in the shoulder joint and surrounding soft tissue.

After your clinician completes this in depth evaluation, they will educate you on how you can treat yourself and provide you with an individualized exercise program.
