Ford has announced that the new year model for the compact pickup truck Maverick will be released soon. Since its release, it has been popular with consumers who want a pickup that offers style and functionality.

Are you thinking of buying a new vehicle? The Maverick is one of the best-selling compact trucks on the market today. But is it better than crossovers and other cars? Read on to know some of the features expected to be different with the 2023 model and if it has advantages over other truck options.

Opened the gateway to non-truck buyers

The president of Ford Blue, Kumar Galhotra, mentioned that the Maverick is attracting new customers. People who would not have considered a pickup truck are now open to the idea of owning one because of how functional and stylish it looks.

According to a CNBC article, Maverick also successfully attracts a younger demographic and female buyers to the company. Nearly 90 percent of the customers for the overall truck market are male, but Ford says about a quarter of the buyers nowadays are female.

Alternative to boring crossovers

The Maverick has been introduced as the smallest truck in Ford's lineup. Although it is little compared to its brute and brawny F-series brethren, it did not fall short, especially when it comes to demand.

Considering today's pickup trucks' mammoth sizes and aggressive styling, the friendly exterior of the Maverick is like a breath of fresh air. It is a curvy little thing that has a charming presence. The body looks clean and sleek with a touch of modernity, especially for being a hybrid truck. It has a rounded front end, and a short but valuable rear-end bed. The C-clamp headlights and a large blackout grille may be a nod to the F-Series, while its name is stamped on the tailgate.

The versatile compact truck is not a burden on the budget. In early December of 2021, Ford confirmed that the hybrid variant was sold out for the 2022 model year. The company mentioned that 48.2 percent of Maverick's sales are attributed to the hybrid model, which sells like hotcakes.

Advantages over other trucks

Ford's compact truck does not look like your average pickup. Compared to other pickup trucks, the Maverick's exterior design is very stylish and does not look like a work truck due to its unibody construction.

The Maverick has more car-like than other pickup trucks, so the ride is smoother, unlike in other pickups that feel bumpy. Given the low price point, this compact truck's cabin is surprisingly hushed as there is only a tiny quantity of vibrations.

Ford's hybrid compact truck has a good fuel economy. It was even said to have a higher gas mileage and better maneuverability than a Toyota Tacoma. Since it is small and has a lightweight body, drivers get better fuel efficiency. It comes standard with a four-cylinder engine, which makes it very powerful for its size. It also has a towing capacity of up to 2000 pounds, which is impressive for a tiny pickup.

The Maverick is perfect for driving on city streets, but that doesn't mean the owners won't consider camping with their vehicle. But it is obviously too short to sleep in as the bed measures only 4.5 ft. Don't worry because you can still make the camping experience more enjoyable. Aside from tonneau covers, other aftermarket truck accessories, such as a bolt-on camper, can be installed on the short bed. It provides a sleeping area via a pop-top tent installed over the truck's roof.

Despite the short bed and underpowered towing capability, no one says it can't be used for commercial or other personal purposes. Installing a bed rack to a Maverick will help make it more functional. Storage solutions for the compact truck make organizing fun and easy. You may also select from headache racks or roof rack options. These automotive accessories can help transport sports gear like a kayak or prevent the cargo from shifting.

2023 model

The 2023 model gets the same features and packages as the 2022 model. But Ford's popular Tremor package is also included in the Maverick's new year model.

If you're not a serious off-roader, you can still go on an adventure trip with the Maverick. The older versions of the compact truck aren't really for hardcore off-roading. But Ford's Truck Product Marketing and Brand Manager, Todd Eckert, says that the new Tremor delivers the same promise with new features and functions designed for off-roading.

The reservation for the non-hybrid 2023 models of the Maverick was due to open on the second of August. However, the blue oval-badged automaker abruptly dropped the new truck model from a summer rate-lock incentive. According to the company's news bulletin, dealerships are told that new model order banks will open outside the promotional period.

Ford announced that the order banks for the 2023 hybrid Maverick would be open in September, after the promotional period. For many people, the delay is an inconvenience for the whole process of buying the Maverick. Given how quickly mortgage rates rise each year, some buyers will miss out on the chance to lock the interest rates before the price increases.

What is the Tremor package?

The Tremor package is a popular trim available on the F-150 and Super Duty truck variants. It is also an option for the XLT and Lariat trims of the 2023 Maverick. It is an excellent choice for buyers who wants a combined appearance package with enhanced off-road capability. The package includes an off-road tailored suspension, a one-inch lift, and the exciting Trail Control.

The trail control lets the driver set a pace for off-road driving. While the driver focuses on driving through challenging terrain, the feature helps the truck maintain a certain speed. It manages the throttle and braking, similar to cruise control. However, it only works at much lower speeds.

The Tremor Package aims to fix the issues found in the 2022 model. Even though the ground clearance was adequate, the compact pickup still lacked more capable approach and departure angles, which you can find in its big brother Ranger. In the 2022 edition, Maverick's front and rear bumpers were always much closer to scraping the mud when climbing steep hills. The vehicle could get stuck when you drive the wheel wrong or carry too much speed. The worst thing that could happen while you're on the muddy trail is that you'll go home with damaged bumpers.

The one-inch increase in ride height on the new year model improves the ground clearance. The trail Control also helps keep the vehicle on the intended path, preventing it from speeding too much or losing control as you tackle a more challenging landscape.

In summary, these are some things to keep you updated, whether you're looking for a new car or just want to know more about Ford's best-selling small truck. It may be small, but it’s truly incredible—especially for its reasonable price. It is also a good selection for those who aren't keen on driving a truck because you might get interested in its features, function, and style. You can expect the upcoming 2023 model to have improved features that would make it an even better pickup truck.
