The One, Me & Da’ Lac

So this happened. The distance between Clackamas, Oregon and Northern California doesn’t take two weeks at all! It took more like 4 days and Roger, my CarMax sake’s Rep, was just as excited as I was. To my great delight, the process of CarMax’s home delivery process (for wanna-be celebrities like me) began.

I’d secured financing already through CarMax. Also, pretty painless. A few questions and a determination as to my options for down payment and I was set.

Certainly the biggest decision was what to do with Mama’s Original Baby.

My Son kindly helped empty her of old papers, receipts, key ring and single earrings, business cards, hair clips and well, you get the picture. I couldn’t help but remember how each of my kids learned to drive in that car.

Our oldest Camden thought he was king of the suburbs when he’d drive it to the the store and back.

Middle kid Jordan found his Dad to be a better teacher than me but still managed to run into the garage wall while pulling in one day.

And youngest Kayla insisted that she be taught how to ‘Gangsta Lean’ like Mom and only drive and turn with one finger.

We all laugh about it now but the younger two stole my car in the church parking lot and took a joy ride. Please, if you’re reading this, pray for the two of them.

Mama’s Baby served us well on trips and excursions, emergencies and times when a reliable car needed to be borrowed. She’s zoomed us to hospitals and never made us late for an event managing to always deliver us in style thanks to those chrome rims and accents. She sat in my drive way all shiny and clean for a whole day and a half with no license plates and I missed her already😢

Me & my birthday grill

During that time, I secured gap-insurance, proved I was a licensed driver and took photos of my trade-in using CarMax’s emailed scan tool.

Roger stayed in constant contact with me guiding me through each step.

Then, the CarMax van arrived escorting the lovely pearl white Cadillac I’d only seen online. She wore a yellow bow on her hood and seemed to wink at me as she glided to my front door. She was everything CarMax promised: sleek, clean, full of fun features and surprisingly she had fewer miles than advertised!

Da’ Lac

Me and The One took pics trying to look as cool and sleek as the car. Well, we did our best.

Neighbors came out to ooh and aahhh over the new addition.

Me in the CarMax Van

A young guy named Myles wore a mask and asked me to step up into the CarMax van. Okay so it’s totally equipped with computers, a fax machine, a printer. There was bench seat and a computer screen just for me. I gave my signature on all the paperwork required and then he handed me the keys to Mama’s New Baby.

While Myles and his assistant wrapped up scans and faxes, we took off in what we’re now calling Da’ Lac. We raced up and down the freeway just to see what she could do. Wooo-hooo!

When we got back, there was a tow truck and the driver ever so carefully hoisted up my Chrysler 300 and took her away. I saluted her. She’d been an excellent soldier, chariot and means to escape.

Then I moonwalked back to Da Lac, slid in to the comfort of her baby soft leather, cranked up the volume on my sinced playlist that poured like sound syrup from her Bose speakers and glided off to various parts of the city with The One at my side.

All in all, Cadillac Buying @ 6ft Away during the Pandemic has been a blast!
