Minivans are infamous for being family-friendly, and it's not only due to the space or the amenities they offer, either. Because of their big size and the fact that they tend to haul kids to school, car manufacturers often work on making sure that they have as many safety amenities as possible built into them.

Part of making a car safe is making a car reliable. After all, it only takes one stall on a highway or one sudden breakdown to cause a serious pileup. Moreover, reliability also gets docked whenever car recalls get issued out — and as we all know, recalls happen due to safety concerns.

As a result, competition is pretty high for the most reliable minivans for families on the go. According to US Newsand AutoGuide, these are the best minivans for families who want a high level of reliability with their minivans.

2017 Honda Odyssey

Honda has always had a pretty decent reputation for making a quality minivan, but the Odyssey is exceptional in its design. It actually won an award for "Best Minivan for Families" by US News.

A gorgeous design, spacious interior, 19/27 gas mileage rating, and great safety rankings are what make this a winner. It also had a 2.5 out of 5 reliability rating and a 9.4 out of 10 safety rating. Overall, it's not a bad car to buy.

However, there are definitely more reliable minivans on this list. So, while it's not one of the most reliable minivans for families that want safety, it does have enough features to give you peace of mind regardless.

2017 Nissan Quest

Though this didn't rank highly in terms of being the "overall best" in US News, the 2017 Nissan Quest was ranked as one of the most reliable minivans for families that do lots of driving. Pricing also is fairly low, with a new model costing around $26,000 on most dealership lots.

However, it's worth pointing out that its old school design isn't for everyone — and that fact may detract from its overall ride quality depending on who's driving it. Additionally, it can only seat seven people, so if you're looking for a larger group car, this isn't it.

2017 Toyota Sienna

If you're looking for a car that is heavy on reliability, capable of unleashing 296 horsepower, and also keeping gas at a (sort of) decent 19/27 MPG rating, then you need to check out the 2017 Toyota Sienna.

Nicknamed the "Swagger Wagon" by Toyota, this minivan offers a lot of amenities, smooth design, and a solid reputation for reliability. Though it may not be as reliable as the Nissan Quest, many still call the Toyota Sienna one of the most reliable minivans for families out there.

2017 Chrysler Pacifica

The spacious 2017 Chrysler Pacifica is considered to be one of the most reliable minivans for families of all sizes — and has actually won awards because of how excellent its design is in multiple categories.

Equipped to the teeth with infotainment features, safety amenities, and awesome "Store N' Go" seating, the Pacifica is an obvious award winner. It also has a 3.5 star rating when it comes to reliability, making it one of the best minivans for families who can't afford to hit the repair shop too often.

Priced at around $28,000 for starter models, it's safe to say that the Chrysler Pacifica is a steal.

2017 Chevrolet Tahoe

Though it's technically a large SUV and not a minivan, we're going to call this a case of "potato, potahto," and include the Chevy Tahoe on our list. After all, it has 355 horsepower ratings, can seat up to nine people, and also has a build similar to most minivans.

So, yes, it's a minivan — if you think about it. J.D Power and Associates rated it a 3.5 out of five stars, which in turn makes it one of the most reliable minivans for families who want a little more luxury and a lot more space in their car of choice.

Oh, and a word of advice for parents: this has a Teen Driver System you can use to help ensure that your kid will not end up in an accident. Ergo, it's one of the best minivans for families with teens, too.

2017 Ford Expedition

Whether people want to admit it or not, Ford can make a pretty solid SUV/minivan. The 2017 Ford Expedition has a 3.5-star rating by J.D. Power and Associates for reliability and also boasts impressive crash safety scores as well.

That being said, this massive three-seater offers a very smooth ride, plenty of horsepower under the hood, and a U.S. News award for "Best Large SUV for the Money." Though it's technically an SUV, we're also going to cite it as one of the most reliable minivans for families in 2017.
