At the 2021 Chengdu Auto Show, we photographed a group of Mercedes-Benz's new flagship pure electric sedans - EQS. Based on EVA electric vehicle architecture, the new car is positioned as a large flagship pure electric sedan, with two models EQS450+ and EQS580 4MATIC+, which will have a maximum power of 245-385kW and a maximum range of 770km ( WLTP standard).

On the exterior, the EQS adopts the latest generation of Mercedes-Benz EQ family design language, in which the front face, although the iconic shield-shaped front grille is retained, has been redesigned, with the size of the grille being further widened and the outer edge lines being more rounded, and the interior no longer uses the previous chrome trim, but a new sealed grille with embedded LED light strips with trident elements.

The two side headlight clusters are similar to the new S-Class, both upgraded to the family "inverted triangle shape" style, but the corners of the cluster are much more aggressive than the first to use the design of the new S-Class.

On the side, the sliding back design with a flowing waistline gives the EQS the right proportions, while also taking into account the "aura" that every Mercedes should have. At the same time, the new car also adopts a hidden door handle design, which is not only more elegant but also further enhances the aerodynamic performance of the car. In addition, the new car also adopts a frameless door design, further highlighting its sporty attributes.

The wheels are equipped with the EQ series' exclusive dual 5-spoke low wind resistance 20-inch wheels (19/21-inch optional) in a silver/black color mix, with the outwardly thrown, full-bodied wheel brow to create a deep sense of dimensionality.

At the rear, the EQS also follows the latest family design, with the slightly depressing rear end still retained, and the lines are concentrated to create a new, integrated spoiler. The taillight clusters on both sides, not surprisingly, also adopt the "inverted triangle" style, with a slimmer and flatter shape, and for the first time include a through design; the embedded light cluster is a spiral design, inspired by the spiral filament of a traditional light bulb, which is like a bright "starry sky" when lit up. "The interior light cluster is a spiral design inspired by the spiral filament of a traditional light bulb.

First of all, the overall design can be said to be very different from the existing Mercedes-Benz models. A whole curved glass perfectly runs through the entire center control, extending from the left A-pillar to the right A-pillar (the length is 141cm, and the experience area is 2432.11 square centimeters); at the same time, in addition to its large size, it seamlessly integrates the originally separately laid out LCD instrumentation, center control screen, passenger entertainment screen (new), and air conditioning vents all In addition to the large size, it seamlessly integrates the LCD instrumentation, center console, passenger entertainment screen (new), and air conditioning vents into one, achieving an unprecedented design aesthetic.

In addition, the new model offers the same interior style as the new S-Class, with a cascading center touchscreen extending vertically from the center console to become the star of the new interior and creating a wrap-around cockpit space with a large leather-trimmed instrument panel.

Back to the car system, the EQS is equipped with the new generation MBUX Hyperscreen car system, of which the hardware, both the center screen and the passenger entertainment screen use OLED self-illuminating technology, which means that when the screen is closed, the screen can appear black and blend in with the glass panel.

The passenger entertainment screen, which is added for the first time, allows the passenger to have his or her operating area, thus making the trip more enjoyable and interesting; in addition, if the passenger is not riding in the drop seat, the passenger entertainment screen will turn into a digital decorative part, mainly displaying standby animation, or the Mercedes-Benz logo, etc.

Power, EQS will be launched a single-motor rear-drive version of the EQS450+ and a dual-motor four-wheel drive version of the EQS580 4MATIC+, with a maximum power of 245/385kW, peak torque of 568/855N-m, 0-100km/h acceleration time of 6.2s and 4.3s, respectively, and top speed all limited to 210km/h.

The battery material is NCM 811 lithium-ion battery, and the cathode active material is composed of nickel, cobalt, and manganese in the ratio of 8:1:1; while the shell is made of metal and the insert is the common pouch battery layout, consisting of 10-12 cell modules with a combined voltage of 400V.

In addition, the battery also supports the OTA online update of the battery management system for more intelligent power management. Mercedes-Benz said: We will provide a 10-year, 250,000km warranty for the battery on the EQS to fully protect the user's car experience.

On the charging system, the Mercedes-Benz EQS (ask for the bottom price|check out the details) supports 22kW three-phase on-board charging and 200kW DC fast charging, of which 15 minutes can replenish a range of 300km (WLTP standard).

Officially, the Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ has average electricity consumption of 19.1-16.0kWh per 100km, and the EQS 580 4MATIC+ has average electricity consumption of 20.0-16.9kWh per 100km, which, together with the 90/107.8kWh battery pack (12 battery modules), can achieve a maximum pure electric range of 770km (WLTP standard).
