The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is officially launched, with two new models of different displacements, namely the Maybach S 400 4MATIC and Maybach S 600.

New vehicle appearance.

In terms of appearance, the Maybach S-Class (X222) is based on the current Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222). In the front part, the Maybach S-Class features a chrome-plated triple-bar grille with the classic Mercedes-Benz standing logo. The headlight cluster adopts the Mercedes-Benz family design and adopts full LED light source, the visual effect is very stylish.

The new car's window edges and B-pillars are painted in silver, highlighting the sense of luxury. Due to the lengthening of the body, the rear door of the new car adopts a new design, and the triangular window on the original door is moved above the body.

The rear part of the car has the same design as the ordinary S-Class, with a full LED light source in the tail light cluster, and the exclusive "MAYBACH" badge and logo on the left side of the luggage compartment and the D-pillar, thus highlighting its luxury status. In addition, the Maybach S-Class is also equipped with two new wheel rims of different designs depending on the model, thus distinguishing it.

Interior design.

The interior of the Maybach S-Class is almost identical to that of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, but it is better in terms of materials. The center console is wrapped in leather (also available in Simeon leather) and is complemented by wood-grain trim panels, which have a very luxurious visual effect. In addition, the new car is equipped with a full LCD instrument panel, a large central LCD, and six interior color options.

The rear row of the Maybach S-Class is the biggest highlight of the car. With a wheelbase of 3,365 mm, the car has plenty of space inside, and with the luxurious rear seat design, sitting in the back row of the new car can be quite comfortable.

In terms of configuration, the Maybach S-Class is very richly equipped. The Maybach S 400 4MATIC is equipped with interior ambient lighting, velour foot mats, rear air-conditioned seats, electrically adjustable rear seats with memory function, interior air conditioning package, rear window electric sun visor, heated rear window with timer control, cabin management and data system, rear entertainment system, DVD changer, touchpad, Burmester (Berlin Sound) surround stereo sound system, etc.

The top-of-the-line Maybach S 600 is equipped with first-class individual rear seats, velour foot mats with a V 12 logo, a rear phone unit, a rear folding table, a cooler, Internet functionality, a split-screen display system, a TV signal receiver, a touchpad, a top-of-the-line 3 D surround sound system from Burmester. In addition, the top model is available with an optional dimmable panoramic sunroof.

Power.

In terms of power, the Maybach S-Class offers two types of power for consumers to choose from, with the Maybach S 400 4MATIC powered by a 3.0L twin-turbo V 6 engine with 333 hp and 480 Nm of peak torque, while the top-of-the-line Maybach S 600 is powered by a 6.0 L twin-turbo V 12 engine with 530 hp and 830 Nm of peak torque. In terms of transmission, the engine is matched with a 7G-TRONIC PLUS 7-speed manual transmission.

New car background.

Back in 2012, due to the unsatisfactory sales performance of Maybach, Mercedes-Benz decided to shut down the top luxury brand, which had been snowed under for more than half a century, again after 10 years of reappearance. 2012 August Maybach was officially discontinued, and the following year the Maybach brand was officially closed, with only 3,000 units of its Maybach 57 and Maybach 62 models produced during the decade.

In 2014, with spy photos of the new generation, S-Class in the ultra-long wheelbase version revealed, Mercedes-Benz revealed to the public that it would restart the Maybach brand, which would become the main luxury sub-brand of Mercedes-Benz, and the Mercedes-Maybach S 600 officially premiered in the world on November 19, 2014.

Competitors.

Judging from the size and pricing of the Maybach S-Class, we can't find a model that directly competes with it in the current market. However, if we look at it separately, although the Maybach S 400 is much larger than BMW 740 Li and Audi A8 L 50 TFSI, the starting price is not much higher than these models, so it will form a certain competition with some mid-range luxury models in the current market.

The top-of-the-line Maybach S 600 from its price point of view will be with BMW 760 Li and Audi A8 L W 12 and some other top luxury moldings there is a certain competition. In addition, due to its larger space and more luxurious configuration, it is also very likely to capture the market share of the entry-level model of the Bentley Flying Spur V8.

Summing up.

The re-emerging Mercedes-Maybach has lowered its price to become a luxury derivative of the S-Class, but it is more than just a sticker. After the extended wheelbase, it has more space, more premium materials, and more comfortable rear seats, all of which bring more luxury to the user.

From the pricing of the two cars, they are not overpriced above the same Mercedes-Benz S-Class, with the Maybach S 400 priced only 10,000 yuan higher than the Mercedes-Benz S 400 L luxury model, I think those potential consumers should not count on spending more money to get a bigger and more luxurious and more dignified private car.
