Maserati's 2027 Grecale Gets More Accessible, And Its EV Finally Gets Real Range

A new entry-level trim brings the V-6 down to a friendlier price point, while the Folgore electric model addresses its most glaring weakness

Maserati has spent the last few years steadily democratizing access to its Nettuno V-6 engine across the Grecale lineup, and the 2027 model year pushes that strategy further with a new base trim that undercuts the previous entry point while keeping the same engine that made the Modena appealing in the first place.

A New Base Trim Without Compromising the Engine

The headline change is straightforward: there's now a 2027 Grecale base trim that slots below the Modena, and it carries the identical 385-horsepower twin-turbo 3.0-litre V-6 found in the pricier model. This is a meaningful move for Maserati, which had already replaced the Grecale's base four-cylinder with the six-cylinder engine in a previous update extending that same powertrain access to an even lower price tier continues the trend of making Maserati's signature engineering more broadly reachable.

The gas-powered lineup for 2027 now consists of three trims: the new base Grecale, the Modena, and the high-performance Trofeo. Both the base and Modena share the 385-hp V-6, while the Trofeo steps up to 523 horsepower from the same engine architecture, tuned more aggressively for performance-focused buyers.

Design Refinements, Inside and Out

The front fascia receives a revision across all Grecale models, though Maserati is describing it as an evolution rather than a dramatic redesign consistent with the styling direction recently seen on the GranTurismo and MCPura. This kind of family resemblance across the lineup helps reinforce a cohesive visual identity for the brand as a whole.

Inside, changes include a new steering wheel design and a different gear shifter, along with trim-level differences that distinguish the various models. Maserati has also expanded customization options with new wheel designs and additional color choices, giving buyers more ways to personalize their SUV without changing the fundamental mechanical package.

The Folgore Finally Gets Real Range

For buyers considering the electric Grecale Folgore, this update addresses what has arguably been the model's most significant shortcoming. The 550-horsepower electric variant now claims an estimated 274 miles of range with 20-inch wheels, or 272 miles with the larger 21-inch wheels a substantial improvement over the outgoing 2026 model's maximum estimated range of 245 miles.

That roughly 30-mile improvement comes from new tires designed to reduce rolling resistance and a revised energy management algorithm that more efficiently allocates power across the drivetrain. In the competitive electric luxury SUV segment, where range anxiety remains a genuine purchase consideration for many buyers, closing this gap meaningfully improves the Folgore's competitive position against rivals that have offered longer range as a matter of course.

Pricing: Where It Gets Genuinely Interesting

The pricing structure for 2027 reflects Maserati's clear intent to make the V-6 Grecale more accessible. The new base trim starts at $79,895 representing a $6,600 price cut compared to what the previous Modena cost, while delivering the same core engine and driving experience that made the Modena desirable in the first place.

The 2027 Modena itself holds steady at $86,495, unchanged from the previous model year, while the Trofeo actually gets a $2,000 price reduction, now starting at $117,495. Across the board, Maserati appears to be recalibrating its Grecale pricing downward at multiple trim levels a notable move in a luxury segment where price cuts are less common than price creep.

Maserati hasn't yet announced pricing for the 2027 Grecale Folgore, but the updated models across the lineup are expected to begin arriving at dealerships later this year.

What This Means for Buyers

The new base trim is the more immediately compelling story here. Getting the same 385-hp twin-turbo V-6 that previously required stepping up to the Modena, now at a price point $6,600 below where that Modena used to sit, meaningfully lowers the barrier to entry for buyers who want genuine Maserati performance credentials without the full Modena price tag.

For Folgore shoppers specifically, the range improvement while still trailing some competitors in the segment represents a real step toward making the electric Grecale a more practical daily option rather than one hampered by range anxiety on longer trips.

Combined with the visual refinements and expanded customization, this update reads less like a minor mid-cycle refresh and more like Maserati actively working to make the Grecale lineup both more accessible and more competitive heading into 2027.
