The anti-lock braking system (ABS) is not yet an obligation in Indonesia. However, some excellent products from brand holders still provide them as an option. The application itself varies, there is one channel and two channels.

Regarding the market, it is definitely targeting the most popular segment, namely scooters. In Indonesia, we also know that the ABS brake system is provided by several brands. Starting from Honda, Yamaha and even products from Taiwan, namely Kymco. Then, who is the most ideal?

In Indonesia, there are several scooters with ABS braking, ranging from 125 cc - 300 cc engines.

Honda PCX 150

PT Astra Honda Motor (AHM) actually already has a braking system called the combi brake system (CBS). Its existence is effective because Honda motorbike owners just need to press the left brake lever to stop the wheel on both wheels simultaneously. The application was also installed on the Honda PCX 2020.

Even so, there is also the Honda PCX ABS 2021 which is offered as the highest variant. As a safety supporter, it should be better because it can eliminate the symptoms of a locked tire when you make sudden braking. The location of the sensor itself is on the front wheel only.

Honda ADV150

You can also get the ABS braking method when you decide to buy a Honda ADV150 ABS. As with PCX, buyers also get the brake application on the front wheels. The difference is, the sensor on the front wheel of this adventurous style scooter is accompanied by a wavy disc. While on PCX, the disc is formed with only static circles.

Honda SH150i

A system with a similar method can be found on the Honda SH150i. The difference is, the ABS brakes are used to accompany the front tires measuring 16 inches. Yes, the presentation of this Vietnamese-made product is indeed unique. Even though it is a scooter, this design makes it like a duck motorbike.

PT Astra Honda Motor presents four scooter line-ups with ABS braking.

The only automatic motorbike line with the most complete braking, is actually presented by Honda Forza. Naturally, from the weight he is the heaviest among the Honda scooters above. Likewise with the 250 cc engine capacity that is carried. Automatically makes Honda focus on maximizing safety devices on this Yamaha XMax competitor.

Not only on the front wheels, Honda Forza's ABS braking system is also on the rear wheels. Not only that, optimization is also provided through the insertion of the Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) feature. The availability of this feature is equally important, considering that the liquid cooled SOHC engine delivers a large output to the rear wheels. Honda Forza's torque record alone reaches 24 Nm at 6,250 rpm. While the power generated is 23.5 Ps @ 7,500 rpm.

Price List of Honda ABS

  • 1.Honda PCX ABS IDR 32,842,000
  • 2.Honda ADV150 ABS IDR 37,805,000
  • 3.Honda SH150i IDR 43,900,000
  • 4.Honda Forza IDR 83,810,000

Yamaha XMax

Even so, a complete treat regarding safety supporters at the Honda Forza was only seen in 2018. The reason is, Yamaha Indonesia has already provided it in their 250 cc scooter, namely Yamaha XMax.

When it was introduced in 2016, XMax already carried a two-channel ABS braking system (front-rear wheels). Not only that, the addition of an electronic device in the form of a Traction Control System (TCS) at that time was considered important by the manufacturer bearing the tuning fork symbol. Again, reflecting on the amount of output inscribed by the 250 cc SOHC engine.

From the recorded specification data, the XMax is capable of spewing out 24.3 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm. It can be seen, the achievement of XMax's torsion moment is greater than Forza. Not only that, he also reached the record at a lower engine speed as well. So it is natural that the TCS equipment is a standard device in this scooter made by Yamaha Indonesia.

Yamaha NMax

We know that the All New Yamaha NMax Connected brings a series of novelties to consumers. In the performance sector, for example. There is an increase in performance because of using the latest engine innards. This increase then made Yamaha decide to add it with more adequate equipment.

The scooter with ABS from Yamaha is unique because it is presented in the 125 cc engine line up.

Since the first generation NMax was born, Yamaha has indeed offered a Yamaha NMax option equipped with ABS brakes on both wheels. But in the current generation, the brakes, especially on the rear tires, have been added to the TCS. Yes, the same as the presentation on the Yamaha XMax.

Yamaha Aerox 155

Even so, not all two-channel ABS brakes are available on Yamaha products. Call it the All New Yamaha Aerox 155 Connected ABS. The anti wheel lock brake sensor assigned to it is available on the front wheels only. Not without reason. The reason is, the rear brake on the highest type of Aerox still uses the drum type. While we know, ABS brakes are generally side by side with discs, aka disc brakes.

Yamaha Lexi

The same goes for the Yamaha Lexi S ABS. Buyers of these scooters will find ABS brakes on the front wheels only. We think that is more than enough. On paper, the resulting output is also absurdly large. However, it will be important for new riders, especially women. Serves to avoid the occurrence of the front tire slip due to locking after making sudden braking.

Kymco Like 150i

At first glance, you might not believe that the Kymco Like 150i already uses ABS braking. Naturally, because the ABS sensor on this Taiwan scooter does not look like a motorbike in general. It must be appreciated because it makes the wheel area look tidier. Even so, you still have to believe that it is equipped with ABS brakes on both wheels.

Kymco X-Town 250i

ABS brake applications are also available on the Kymco X-Town 250i. This 250 cc scooter competitor of Yamaha Xmax and Honda Forza has also adopted sensor braking on the front and rear wheels. Unfortunately, this gambot scooter does not yet provide a traction controller. Meanwhile, two Japanese-flagged scooters have used it as standard equipment.

The Kymco Like 150i and Kymco X-Town 250i use a two-channel ABS brake system.

Vespa line up for ABS brakes

Like the three brands, ABS brakes are not fully applied to the products sold by PT Piaggio Indonesia in the country. When judging from their shop window, the new brake sensor is available in the 150 cc engine type. For ABS braking on the front wheels, you can see it from the Vespa Primavera , Vespa Sprint and Vespa GTS Super 150i.

Meanwhile, two-channel ABS (two wheels) is presented in the top variants, namely the Vespa GTS Super Tech 300 and the Vespa Sei Giorni II Edition. Again, the difference between the two is made because they have a larger engine capacity.

Price List of Vespa ABS

  • Vespa Primavera 150 i-get ABS IDR 44,800,000
  • Vespa Primavera S 150 i-get ABS IDR 47,300,000
  • Vespa Sprint 150 i-get ABS IDR 47,600,000
  • Vespa Sprint S i-get ABS IDR 50,100,000
  • Vespa GTS Super 150 i-get ABS IDR 62,000,000
  • Vespa GTS Super Tech 300 IDR 153,500,000
  • Vespa Sei Giorni II Edition IDR 155,500,000

Conclusion

Reflecting on the regulations on motorcycle ABS braking in Indonesia, now it is not yet an obligation. However, it is not unnoticed by the brand holder. Motorcycle manufacturers for the domestic market such as Honda and Yamaha, for example. Providing an ABS variant as an option for those of you who want to have a motorbike with additional safety support.

In the end, you just have to compare it in terms of completeness and price. For example: Is the Honda PCX or Honda ADV150 worth buying with its single channel ABS brakes? You can also consider the official price offered by Honda Forza and Yamaha XMax because they have similar provisions. Or, compare the presentation between the Yamaha NMax and the Kymco Like 150i because it offers ABS brakes on both wheels.
