CIRCUIT DE LA SARTHE, France. On Saturday, Genesis will etch its name into the history books as the first South Korean automotive brand to compete in the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans. Its LMDh-spec Hypercar, the GMR-001, has already proven its mettle by scoring points at Spa-Francorchamps and securing strong qualifying positions. But Genesis is not content to rest on its laurels. With one foot firmly planted in the Hypercar era, the luxury brand is already looking toward its next challenge: GT3 racing.

To signal this intent, Genesis has unveiled the Magma GT3 concept at the Circuit de la Sarthe, offering a tantalizing glimpse of what could soon be battling for class victories around the world.

The Magma GT3: A Halo Car for the Track

Dubbed the Magma GT3, the concept car shown on Friday closely resembles the Magma GT road car concept that debuted late last year. While currently a design study, Genesis has made it clear that this is more than just a fantasy. The brand describes the race car as "one of several possible scenarios," but the underlying message is unmistakable: Genesis intends to develop a production halo car capable of competing in the highly competitive GT3 category.

This rapid progression mirrors the brand’s aggressive timeline for its Le Mans program, which went from announcement to debut in just 500 days. If Genesis follows the path paved by competitors like Toyota, the Magma GT3 concept could serve as the blueprint for both a future road-going supercar and its track-ready counterpart. Toyota, for instance, revealed its GR GT3 concept in 2022, which closely predicted the design of the production GR GT supercar and its corresponding race car.

Luxury Meets Performance: The Magma GT Interior

Genesis calls the Magma GT a "luxury grand tourer," a designation that suggests the car will blend high-performance capabilities with the premium comfort expected of the brand. This philosophy is evident in the newly revealed interior of the Magma GT concept, which features:

  • Racing-inspired buckets: Providing support for spirited driving while maintaining ergonomic comfort.

  • Quilted orange leather: Finishing a wide center console that emphasizes craftsmanship.

  • Analog-focused cockpit: A massive central gauge is joined by three smaller dials and a notably small video display beneath them, creating a driver-centric, relatively analog aesthetic in an increasingly digital automotive landscape.

The shift from the previous orange exterior accents to a sophisticated green livery further distinguishes this new iteration, aligning it with the brand’s evolving visual identity.

Celebrating Legends with the X Gran Convertible

In addition to the Magma concepts, Genesis debuted new variants of the X Gran Convertible designed specifically for the driver’s parade. One standout model features a distinctive green interior crafted for brand ambassador and Le Mans legend Jacky Ickx, paying homage to his storied career at La Sarthe. These parade cars serve as rolling showcases of Genesis’s design language, bridging the gap between futuristic concept art and tangible luxury.

The Road Ahead: IMSA and Beyond

While the Magma GT3 remains a concept for now, the immediate focus for Genesis Magma Racing is the historic debut of the GMR-001 in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The team is fighting for an overall win in a field dominated by established European and Japanese manufacturers.

Looking further ahead, the GMR-001 program was originally slated to expand into the IMSA GTP championship in North America by 2027. However, brand representatives have hinted that this timeline may have slipped, suggesting a more measured approach to balancing their European endurance campaign with a potential American expansion.

For now, all eyes are on the GMR-001 as it takes to the track. But with the Magma GT3 concept unveiled, it is clear that Genesis’s motorsport ambitions extend far beyond a single race. Whether through Hypercars or future GT3 contenders, Genesis is determined to prove that luxury and performance can coexist at the highest levels of global racing.
